Perry High School
Newsletter #10 (10/31/19)
Message from the Principal
Happy Halloween!
We have an amazing and very talented student body who excel in a variety of areas that extend beyond the classroom setting. This particular issue reflects their creative abilities and the fall season that is upon us all while also highlighting ways that we can all support one another throughout the community.
Thank you for all that you do for our students, our school, and our community.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Go Panthers!!!
Bahamas Water Relief Initiative
Due to the high demand, a resource we take for granted day to day has come at a premium for the island especially in the immediate area. The District has secured nearly 8,100 gallons of water from Sand Rock and over 400 additional empty containers have been donated. There have been many other donations including the Major Sponsorship of Aqua Ohio. Most of the expense lies in the logistics of getting the water to the island.
Please help us Friday Night in supporting this wonderful cause and bringing hope to the Bahama Islands.
PHS Gets into the Spirit of the Season
Mental Health & Awareness Night a success
Appreciation is extended to Dr. Margaret DeLillo-Storey (District Mental Health Counselor) for organizing the evening for our District and community. Likewise, we thank all of the student groups and community-based organizations who participated.
PHS Graduate named a Fulbright Scholar
The U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board are pleased to announce that Dr. Kelsey Gray (Perry HS graduate in the Class of 2008) received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award to India in biology teaching and education research. Dr. Gray will teach and conduct research at Drepung Loseling Monastic University as part of a project to enhance knowledge and implementation of culturally responsive science education.
Dr. Gray is one of over 800 U.S. citizens who will teach, conduct research, and/or provide expertise abroad for the 2019-2020 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement, as well as record of service and demonstrated leadership in their respective fields.
Congratulations Dr. Gray on this amazing accomplishment. The complete article in the Canton Repository may be accessed through the following link:
Facility Meetings - Community input needed
The Perry Local School District has been presented with an opportunity to address its aging school buildings. The district is seeking the community’s input to determine how to move forward regarding this issue. The Perry Local School District and its Building Advisory Committee have determined that renovating all of the buildings would be cost prohibitive. As such, after extensive work with local community advisory groups, they have established three overall facility plan options for consideration. The community is being asked to participate in upcoming focus groups or an online survey to help the district on its plan for a potential 2020 ballot initiative.
There will be four upcoming focus groups:
- Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, at the Career & Wellness Center at 4 p.m. for staff members of the Perry Local School District
- Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, at Perry Grange (Richville) at 6:30 p.m. for community input
- Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, Career & Wellness at 11:45 a.m. for senior citizens
- Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, Career & Wellness Center at 6:30 p.m. for the parents of students who attend Perry Local Schools
Those who are unable to attend any of the focus group sessions listed above are encouraged to take the online survey by visiting the following link:
