Mrs. Shields' Weekly Update
1st Grade Ireland Elementary
E-Learning Week 3 (April 7 - April 9)
Hello! Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe and healthy at home. This week's newletter has a few reminders as well as some new information as well.
Thank you so much for being so diligent about taking care of your child's e-learning assignments. I know it isn't easy to track, but I hope you are finding the assignments and instructions easy to follow. If not, please let me know. It is my goal to make sure that this process is as stress free as possible in this new normal we find ourselves in. You are all doing a great job!
This week we will continue as we did last week. I will be emailing the daily assignments checklist to you so you can print them out to refer to them if you like. I will be updating the checklist in Canvas daily as well. I will normally let you know if I notice that there are several assignments missing, but for your own peace of mind, please check the document in Canvas.
I am doing my best to update the checklist as often as possible throughout the day but will always update at 8 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each day and my final check for the week will be on Sunday at 9 p.m. I will enter attendance on Monday morning.
Remember, as per our instructions from Dr. Lorey if they are missing 1 assignment they will receive a an unexcused absence for that day. Please check often and reach out to me as soon as possible if you have any questions or issues at all so we can work on them together. Communication is key!
Please remember that ALL assignments for each day will be detailed inside that day's module in Canvas. It may look like a long list but we have tried to break it down into simple steps that are easily followed.
ONE NEW THING this week is that we are going to have your child submit pictures of their Math Workbook pages using their Chromebooks and submit that photo in Canvas.
I have provided a step by step video tutorial on how to take, name and save a photo with the Chromebooks as well as a video on how to upload those pictures/files into an assignment in Canvas. The most important thing to remember when uploading to Canvas is to make sure you are in the Assignment and you will need to click submit assignment, choose your document and then click submit assignment AGAIN. I would suggest watching the tutorial and then walking your child through the process. I believe once they have done it once or twice they will be able to do it on there own. They are often way tech savvier than we give them credit for :) Please let me know if you have any issues.
The reason we are doing it this way is to better organize the management of all the photos that are being sent to the teachers.
We will be zooming again at 7 p.m. on Wednesday this week. Have your child bring their clock so we can review telling time. :) Can't wait to see them all again!
FINALLY, I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT AND EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE TOMORROW....
SO STAY TUNED AND WATCH YOUR E-MAIL FOR THE NEWS! I WILL FORWARD THE INFORMATION AS SOON I RECEIVE CONFIRMATION. :)
ZOOM WITH MRS. SHIELDS- WEDNESDAY APRIL 8TH AT 7 P.M.
I AM VERY EXCITED TO ZOOM WITH THE KIDDOS ON WEDNESDAY AT 7 P.M.
This is NOT required, but I really would love to see everyone participate if possible. I think it will be great for us all to see each other friends and chat a little about what we are doing!
BRING YOUR CLOCKS TO PRACTICE TELLING TIME TOGETHER! :)
Accelerated Reader/AR
- Your child gets to AR through Clever
- Your child can take a test on any book from your home library, if they listen to a book online, or the story from his/her reader.
- You can type in the title of any book into AR to see if there is a quiz. There are thousands of titles on AR, so my best advice is to try anything your child has read or listened to.
- Some AR tests will read the questions to your child. It is indicated with a headphone and your child just needs to turn it on. I ask that if the test reads to your child, please let them do it on his/her own.
- If this is not an option, you can read the questions and choices to your child. However, please let your child answer the questions independently. If he/she chooses the wrong answer please don't correct them. This is really hard, I know, but I would like a true picture of their comprehension.
- Mrs. Bauer is allowing this to remain open as long as we feel it is being done with integrity.
