Message from the Superintendent: Survey Results & Elementary Schedule Changing on Fridays
Dear KSD Families,
Thank you for taking the time to participate in the KSD Family Survey - Week Three. Approximately 3400 parents or guardians completed the survey. The survey results can be found on our parent academy website.
Based on our initial review of data, three clear themes emerged: (1) a desire among teachers for additional engagement strategies and ideas, (2) strengthened connections with and among students and their teachers, and (3) support for students' abilities to focus in this challenging environment for learning.
Because of this feedback and in order to meet our students’ needs, we are making an adjustment to the elementary schedule. Starting this Friday, September 18, real-time (synchronous) instruction for elementary students will end at 11:45 am. Students will have a range of asynchronous options on Friday afternoons, including some online and/or time away from iPads. We will be working collaboratively to address students’ needs related to engagement, connections, and focus. Details will be provided in the near future.
Currently, we are serving approximately 1 out of 6 (1,000 students) with in-person learning through the Kirkwood Early Childhood Center, KSD Learning Monitor Program, services to students with special needs, small group instruction for middle school students, and extracurricular activities at Kirkwood High School. We will continue to monitor these groups and use them as a foundation on which to expand in-person opportunities.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff members.
Take care, be well and be safe,
Dr. David Ulrich
