Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
March 15, 2024
We had another great week at Lutherville Lab! Our 5th graders worked very hard on their state Science assessments this week. Across classrooms, students were highly engaged and working hard.
Please note that we have a number of attachments to this week's newsletter from our partners at Caliday and Active Minds, as well as a theater workshop. Note that at Kindergarten Round Up we'll also be taking registration information for Pre-Kindergarten, though Lutherville will continue to not offer Pre-K here.
We are seeking support to exchange our struggle faculty room refrigerator for another that a community member has secured for us. If you have a truck and would be willing to help exchange them (new to school, ours to dump/recycling center) or provide some manual labor for the effort, please reach out to Mrs. McGee at gmcgee@bcps.org, who is coordinating the effort.
Mr. Weigle is asking for donations of cardboard, egg cartons, Trader Joe's bags, and unused/ unneeded paper plates for the art room! These supplies would be saved for next school year. If you have materials to donate, hand them to Mr. Weigle directly or drop them off at the front office. Thank you!
There will be no Lab Report next week, as the writing staff will be eagerly ready to head out for Spring Break. Have a fantastic weekend, and please note the calendar reminders for right after spring break, which are below.
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb
Calendar Reminders:
3/22 - Spring Break begins at dismissal
4/2 - Schools Reopen

Kindergarten Round Up!
In addition to Kindergarten, we would like to extend the Round-Up Invitations to eligible PreK* students, and PreSchool students.
Who is eligible for PreKindergarten?
A student must meet the age of entry guidelines: 4 years old by 9/1/24, DOB 9/2/19 - 9/1/20, and at least one automatic eligibility criteria, or meets prioritized criteria (see attached Prekindergarten Facts Sheet for Parents).
Lutherville Lab does not currently house PreSchool classes, but for strategic planning we are happy to take your information for future PreK enrollment!
If you believe your student is eligible for 2024-2025 PreK, or you have any questions, please email Kelly McDevitt at kmcdevitt@bcps.org for more information.
Spring Family Night -- A Music Jamboree!
Spring family night is Tuesday April 30th from 5:30 - 7:30. This year, we will be celebrating music and invite our community to be a part of the event!
We will have student groups perform and opportunities for students to teach parents some of the instruments they use in school, but want to also share the love of music in our community!
In addition, the PTA is helping to organize 3 opportunities for families to be involved with the musical portion of Spring Family Night.
1) A chance to show off your own student's or family member's musical talents by hosting an instrument demonstration - this will be in the gym and hallways between performances
2) Host a "tasting room" to engage families with the sounds of a genre of music you enjoy or are passionate about - this will be held in classrooms (the school can provide devices you can use to share recordings/music videos [school appropriate, please!])
3) Perform as a solo act or group - this will be held outside under the lights or in the Rec Room if it rains
We are also looking for volunteers for set-up, clean-up and help during the event.
Please share your interests via this Google Doc and we will be back in touch with you soon. Questions can be emailed to Liz Roe - lizroe7@gmail.com.

Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found is overflowing, and we will be donating the items at spring break. Many have been with us for months. Please encourage your child to check the lost and found, or swing by if you are here to pickup or drop off. It is right outside the cafeteria.

Kids Heart Challenge
Thank you to all who participated in our Kids Heart Challenge. We raised over $6,000 for the American Heart Association! I can’t thank you enough for helping fight this great cause. Our school will also receive a $600 certificate to use on PE equipment!
All prizes other than key chains will be delivered in mid April. Thanks again for all your support!
Lutherville Lappers
Lappers will start training next month, Tuesday, March 19th . Please see registration form for more details.
5th Grade Dance Program
The 5th Grade Dance Program is coming to Lutherville Lab March18th-22nd. A dance instructor will be teaching our students a variety of different dances. The program teaches students about the dance forms, their origins, and provides practical experience in social/partner dance, but emphasizes dance etiquette and decorum, both valuable character education components.
Pizza Bingo Thanks!
Thank you to everyone who attended Pizza Bingo last week, we hope you had fun! Thank you to Mrs. Gillispie, Mrs. Feltman and our alumnus, Oliver Nelson, who called the numbers for us. A special shoutout too goes out to Sharae Mcclean and Kate Bloom for doing a terrific job co-chairing this event. Lastly, we appreciate the hot and ready pizzas from our partners, locally family-owned Olympia Pizzeria.
