School Newsletter
16 December, Term 4 - Week 9
Dear Parents, Whānau and Caregivers
We have reached the end of another successful year for Paparangi. Thank you parents and whānau for your support during 2022. I wish staff, students and their families refreshing and happy holidays and look forward to your safe return in 2023. Meri Kirihimete me ngā mihi o te tau hou!
Friendship Seat
We love our new outdoor seat around the big tree (near the slide). Thank you to the family of Ilona Szakats, ex-teacher, who made a very generous donation towards the making of the seat. Thanks to our friends at ChildSpace who built and installed the seat for us.
Thank You Paparangi Parent Helpers!
It was lovely to see some of our parent helpers at our thank you afternoon tea this week. We are very grateful for the many ways parents and whānau contribute to our school. Many of the extra curricular activities on offer are only possible because of the wonderful volunteers who give up their time to help. There are many ways parents support our school, start thinking now - how will you contribute in 2023!
Home and School Committee
Board of Trustees
Parent help in the classroom or at swimming and on trips
Road Patrol
Enviro-Day helpers
Sports team Coaches and Managers
Help at discos and the school fair
Garden donations
Baking for the staffroom!
School Grounds
We encourage families to use the grounds to play over the summer break, but as always recommend supervision of your children, especially as there are often contractors working on property projects during the holiday period. I also ask school families to report any concerns over the summer break to the Police - let’s take care of our school together.
Holiday Building Work
Contractors will be onsite over the holiday break to continue work on the new bathroom and learning support office which is being built at the end of Room 1, next to the driveway. The area is fenced off to keep us all safe and please be aware of the extra traffic some days on the driveway as you are entering or leaving school.
News from the School Board
An end of year newsletter from the School Board was sent to parents yesterday.
End of Year Reports
End of year reports were sent home on Wednesday 14 December. 2023 class placement letters and stationery lists were also included with reports. Photos and calendar orders have been sent home this week too. Thanks for your patience while we waited for the deliveries to arrive! Thanks to families who ordered calendars or cards - your purchases raised $408.00 for the school!
Back to School Stationery 2023
Qizzle are suppliers of school stationery packs next year. This is a stress free way to order stationery for your child/ren for the start of the year and ensures they have the correct stationery items at the start of the new school year. A brochure providing details on how to order stationery is attached to next year’s stationery list. You will find stationery lists on the website from the middle of January. Start of year stationery can not be purchased at school.
Lost Property
Please allow some time today to check the piles of lost property that have accumulated this term. Unclaimed items will be donated to charity.
Emergency Packs
We are keeping the children's emergency kits at school until term 1 next year as many of them are still good to use and don't expire until later in March/April. Information about arrangements for next year's emergency packs will also be sent home in February.
Staff Farewells
This week we've been saying goodbye to several staff who are off on new adventures.
- We say thank you to Angela and Haley, two of our teacher aides. Thanks for your energy and support of students with additional learning needs.
- Thank you to Judy for being a valuable member of our staff for many years - we wish you well for your retirement. Your expertise and sense of humour will be missed.
- Thanks to Kath who has provided teacher release and taught English Language groups over the past two years.
- We farewell Andi who is moving to Canada early next year and say 'bon voyage' to Jenni who is travelling during 2023.
We appreciate all that these staff have brought to Paparangi in their various roles and wish them well as they move on. Thank you to you all for your mahi-tahi, awhi and aroha for our tamariki and school.
Ngā mihi nui

Paparangi Athletics Champions!
This term, Rākau Nui students took part in school athletics. From there, the top 5 boys and the top 5 girls in each level and event went on to the Northern Zone Athletics Meet held at Newtown Park on the 14th of November. The students braved the burning sun and represented the school with their grit, determination and positive attitudes. Many of the students had hoarse voices from cheering on their peers. Several of our students went on to represent our school at the Interzones and we offer congratulations to Cooper W, Noah M, Kaitiaki, Josie, Payton and Rocky.
Three students, Kaitiaki, Rocky and Josie were placed in the top 3 at Interzones and went to Masterton on the 6th of December to represent us at the Regional Athletics. We are very proud of their achievements!
Josie said the day was challenging, but fun! She took part in the Year 4 high jump event. Kaitiaki enjoyed that other friends (not from school) were there too and he is proud that he achieved new personal bests in long jump at Interzones then again at Regionals. Kaitiaki came first in long jump, the 80m and 150m sprints for year 5 boys. Rocky learned that his Dad was also a good runner when he was young, and said even though he was nervous, he had lots of fun. Rocky came 3rd in the 80m and 150m sprints for year 6 boys.
Well done to these incredible talents, we look forward to seeing what you will achieve in the future!

Farewell to the Class of 2022!
It’s time to say goodbye to our year six tamariki. We are very proud of the way they have become Adventurous Learners, taking on many leadership roles, and participating and contributing to the life of our school - through Road Patrol, Library Monitors, Eco-Warriors & Enviro Days, Peer Mediation, Kapa Haka, Recycling and Jump Jam. I enjoyed hearing the memories you shared at your graduation ceremony last week. You will continue making special memories as you embark on new adventures at Intermediate.
A big thank you to the Parents & Whānau of these year six students, who have supported their children throughout their six or so years at Paparangi. I know that for some of these families, this is the end of an era as your youngest child leaves our school - so a special goodbye to you, haere ra. We wish you well, knowing that you take a piece of Paparangi with you wherever you go.
Congratulations to these students who were recognised for their outstanding contributions in the following areas:
- Enviro - Sophia and Cameron
- Kapa Haka - Andonis and Isabelle
- Sport - Xavier and Mila

End of Year Kindo Tips
It's nearly the end of the 2022 school year! Here are a couple of important notes from Kindo for those students who are moving to a new school.
- Not sure if your new school is using Kindo? If you’re not sure, you can either ask the school directly or go to “My Details” in myKindo and click on the list of schools to see if your new school is listed.
- New school IS using Kindo. If your new school is using Kindo, simply click on the new school from the list in “My Details” of your Kindo account and you’ll be attached to the new school’s menu. Any balance on your Kindo account will remain available to spend with the new school. If you have personalised accounts on your myKindo portal, there may be a slight delay as the schools switch records over.
- New school is NOT using Kindo, or you no longer need Kindo. You may need to close your account (you can keep it open if a sibling will be starting within the next 14 months). If you need to close your Kindo account:
- Please stop any regular automatic payments now.
- Use the “Close Account” button within the “My Details” page on myKindo. You can either withdraw your account balance or choose to donate your balance to the school. Please note that all withdrawals will be made via electronic payment to your New Zealand bank account. Kindo is unable to process cash withdrawals.
If you are wanting to withdraw your Kindo account balance, or make a donation that exceeds Kindo’s threshold (currently more than $10,000 total within one year), Kindo will need to undertake some identity checks on you to comply with its obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering Financing of Terrorism (CFT) Act 2009. Please action the withdrawal or donation in your Kindo account as outlined above and if these AML checks are necessary Kindo will advise of the next steps required in this regard. Kindo has endeavoured to make this process as pain-free as possible and appreciates your patience. More information is available here.
