Murphy ILMEA
This year for the annual Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) Music Festival, Murphy had 12 band and 19 choir students audition for spots in the festival ensembles on September 29. Mrs. Tysiak and Ms. Karvelius were really proud of everyone's hard work and representation of themselves and the Murphy music department. Congratulations on a job well done!
Additionally we had 5 band students selected for concert band, 1 band student selected for jazz band, and 7 students selected for choir. Congratulations to Zachary Benoit, Diego Carrillo, Ian Kiilsgaard, Aidan Murray, Evelyn Sims, Sofia Calafos, Alli Dapkus, Peyton Elliott, Paige Hansel, Jimmy Harrision, Sreekeerthi Panchagnula, and Acintya Yoganath. These students will perform with the rest of the selected students from the surrounding area in a concert on Saturday, November 10. Aidan Murray will be performing with the ILMEA Jr. Jazz Bands on Saturday, November 17. Great job, Mavericks!

Elyssa’s Mission 6th Grade Presentation 10/16
Murphy Junior High partners with Elyssa’s Mission (a nonprofit organization dedicated to suicide prevention) to provide depression awareness and suicide prevention training for our students as part of the Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program (SOS).
The SOS® program teaches our students the ACT message if they hear someone talking about hurting themselves or others: Acknowledge, Care, Tell. Please talk with your students about the importance of reaching out to a trusted adult in those situations.
The 2017-18 school year was the first year we implemented this program at all three grade levels. This year, and in following years, the full SOS® program will be presented to 6th grade and 8th grade classes. 7th grade will receive an abbreviated presentation from Student Services staff to review the ACT message. 6th grade presentations will occur on October 16th through Language Arts classes. 7th and 8th grade presentations will occur during second semester.
6th grade parents/guardians - please see the letter below for further information regarding the program as well as the process for opting your child out.
