A brief message from our Principal
Week 5 begins tomorrow :)
Good afternoon RAMily,
Fall has arrived and as the weather changes, this time of the year brings about concerns that could potentially disrupt school. As we experienced our first modified day last week, we want to thank all of you for your patience and flexibility. We are aware that many of our students still do not have their laptops and/or chargers yet, please know that we have been working with the district to secure the necessary tools for our students to be successful. We ask that if your student still has a device and/or charger at home from last school year, that you will send it back to school; so that we can provide them for everyone.
Last week we also had a modified school in order for our 9th and 10th grade students to complete the NWEA assessments. Our next round of testing will be for our 11th and 12th graders, which will be the PSAT on Oct. 12th. Additional information about our schedule will be provided in next weeks newsletter. Interim assessments are also quickly approaching within the upcoming weeks for our EOC (End-of-Course) classes, such as: English I & II, Math III, and Biology. Information about those assessments will be shared this week with our students in order for them to prepare for these very important assessments. It is important that our students put their best effort into these assessments to allow the teachers to determine what they know and need to know at this point.
In closing, I would like to thank all of our parents and community members that came out to support our RAMS during sporting events last week, and was patient with us as we implemented the new district clear bag policy for extra-curricular athletic events. Although it took a little longer to gain entry into those events, we appreciate your understanding of this effort to keep our venues safe and welcoming for all guests.
I look forward to continuing to meet with students, parents, and community members. Please know that I am only a phone call away, and for immediate needs you may stop by the school.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
KaTrinka Brown, Ed.S.

Effective 9/23/22 GCS Implemented a Clear Bag Policy for all Athletics Events
Why did GCS implement this procedure?
The safety of our students, staff, and fans is a top priority. Guilford County Schools is constantly enhancing emergency and safety protocols through ongoing collaboration and partnership with law enforcement agencies, community partners and other urban school districts.
What types of bags are allowed?
You are permitted to bring:
Clear plastic or vinyl bags that are no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”
One gallon-sized clear plastic storage bag
Small, clutch bags that are no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”
What types of bags are not allowed?
You are NOT permitted to bring:
Purses larger than a clutch bag
Briefcases
Backpacks
Fanny Packs
Cinch/Drawstring bags
Luggage
Computer/Camera Bags
Are all non-clear bags and purses prohibited?
No, medical bags, as well as diaper bags with an infant/toddler present, are allowed but are subject to inspection at the entrance. Small clutch purses, with or without a handle or strap, are also permitted and subject to inspection.
How many bags can each person bring into the athletic venue?
One large clear bag – either a one-gallon zip style bag or a 12" by 6" by 12" clear bag – plus a small purse-type clutch. The larger clear bag must be a standard 12" by 6" by 12" made of clear PVC vinyl and is easily searched. The one-gallon zip-style bag is readily available and easily inspected. The small clutch allows privacy for small personal items and is easily searched.
Can fans carry cameras and other devices separately from what they put in a clear bag?
Yes, a camera and other devices can be carried into the venue if they are not in their own bag. This is not a restriction on items that visitors have previously been able to bring into the stadium. It is only a restriction on the type of container used to carry items.
What happens if a person shows up at a venue with a bag that is not permitted?
Fans carrying bags that do not meet the criteria will be turned away from the venue at or near the gates. They will have the opportunity to return prohibited items to their car.
Is this procedure just for certain athletic events?
No, clear bags and the noted exceptions will be required at all GCS athletic events.
Will the media be allowed to bring bags into the venue?
Yes, appropriately credentialed members of the media will be allowed to bring bags into the venue.
Reminders and Parental Support Needed...
