SOLON INTERMEDIATE
MONTHLY UPDATE - JANUARY 2020
PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful winter break filled with love, laughter, and rest!
The first half of this school year brought new challenges, exceptional growth, and inspiring collaboration between students and staff. Students spent time self-assessing to better understand their strengths, celebrate accomplishments, and develop continued goals for further growth. Staff collaborated, used data to drive instructional decisions, and supported one another through vulnerability and collective efficacy. We are looking forward to continuing our collaboration, intervention, strategic instruction, and differentiated approaches to teaching and learning!
As always, thank you for your continued support. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions and/or feedback, my door is always open.

COLD WEATHER REMINDERS
As the colder weather approaches, we want to take a few minutes to remind all of our students about the expectations during recess. Please help us reinforce the following expectations by adding them to your daily school conversations at home:
- Students must have snowshoes and snow pants on to be able to play in the snow, otherwise they must stay on hard surfaces only
- No snowball fights, snow should not be flying towards anyone or anything
- Students should stay off any icy areas as they could slip and get hurt
- Labeling all hats, gloves, snow pants and boots will help reduce the number of lost items during the winter months
- Sledding during recess will be allowed on Thursdays when there is at least 2-3 inches of snow on the ground.
The cold weather can also bring changes to some of our student's normal dismissal routines. Please be sure to email your child's classroom teacher and the office (larwine@solon.k12.ia.us) by noon with any changes to their dismissal plan. This will help us ensure a smooth dismissal and that each student gets to where they are supposed to at the end of the day. It will also help ensure that your child has the necessary bus pass if they are going to ride on a different bus that day.
