#HawkTechTip: Nearpod Google Slides Add-On
The Nearpod Add-on for Google Slides allows you to easily create, edit and collaborate on new Nearpod lessons, all in Google Slides!
What is the Nearpod Add-on for Google Slides?
The Nearpod Add-on for Google Slides allows you to add in Nearpod’s interactive activities and features, directly within your Google Slides presentations. You can save your presentation to Nearpod and deliver the magic of Nearpod to your students. With this new add-on, you can easily create, edit and collaborate on new Nearpod lessons, all in Google Slides!
How can I access the Nearpod Add-on?
To access the Nearpod add-on, click to create a lesson in Google Slides when you are logged into Nearpod. From there, you will be redirected to Google Slides, where you will install the add-on under the “Add-ons” tab. Once installed, you can open the add-on and begin creating.
You can also start in Google Slides. Once in Google Slides, click "Add-ons" and then choose "Get Add-ons." Search for Nearpod, then install. Once you have the Nearpod Add-on installed, click Add-ons>Nearpod>Open Nearpod to begin using it in Slides.
How does the Nearpod Add-on for Google Slides work?
With the Nearpod Add-on, you can add your favorite Nearpod activities and features directly within Google Slides. You will see a “placeholder” slide indicating where the activities and features will be in the lesson. Once you save the lesson and launch the lesson from Nearpod with your students, the interactive slides will come to life. You can edit the lesson directly within Google slides, and easily collaborate with other educators too!

Update to Respondus Lockdown Browser on Student Classroom Desktop Computers
Last week, a new version of Lockdown Browser (Respondus) was pushed out Windows devices (this applies to your student classroom desktop computers). Unfortunately, in some cases, the update uninstalled the old version but did not re-install the new version, or the new version didn’t install completely. Fortunately, there is a quick fix if Respondus is not opening for a student operating on a classroom desktop computer.
NOTE: It's highly recommended that you test these steps on your classroom desktop computer
BEFORE your students prepare to take a Schoology test/quiz or assessment.
- As always, the first thing to try is to have the student RESTART the computer to make sure it has received the latest updates.
- Next, install Respondus Lockdown Browser by searching the programs list for Software Center.
When Software Center opens, Respondus Lockdown Browser will be listed as one of the programs available for install.
Click on it, and then click Install.
Once the install is complete (it’s really quick), the student can go back to the Schoology test and refresh. The test/quiz or assessment should open as normal.
If this doesn’t fix the issue, please complete a Service Desk Ticket.
