Social Studies- Mr. Salser
Hello All,
This week we are wrapping up Unit 5 (Georgia and The New South, the early Civil Rights movement, and World War I) with our final quiz on Tuesday and our Unit 5 test on Thursday. All of the information is posted on Google Classroom. On Friday, we will start on unit 6 by kicking off the Roaring 20s' and the Great Depression. If you want to stay on top of your child's work, ask them to show you their Google Classroom account. Posted you will see notes, study guides, assignments, and any other information in their account.
Science- Mrs. Allen
This week in Science, we are starting off with a lab! Students will use what we have learned so far to demonstrate a comparison between speed, velocity, and acceleration. This lab will likely take us two days to complete. Wednesday, we will be using ga virtual school to review some of the graphs we have looked at so far this unit. We will review creating as well as interpreting these graphs. We will be planning to have our quiz on Thursday over speed, velocity, and acceleration. Friday, we will begin studying Newton’s Laws and how they relate to our unit on forces and motion. By Friday, students should also be through the lesson test on Forces in Mobymax. If they are not, they will receive a zero in the gradebook. This can be worked on in class and anywhere internet is available to students. Let’s have another awesome week!
Math- Mrs. McKinney
Math – Monday we will finish the Unit 4 and 5 Unit Check Point. Tuesday we will look at comparing functions. The students will have homework on that Tuesday night. Wednesday we will compare linear and non-linear functions and how to tell them apart. Students will have homework on this skill also. Thursday and Friday the students will be collecting data on their heartbeats and they will be graphing the data and interpreting the results. We will be graphing the data from the entire class to see if we can find a correlation. The students will not have homework on these topics so it will be a good time for them to either work on their projects that they were given.
Please see Google Classroom for the Rubric.
I am including the requirements and the deadlines so you have access to them.
Stained Glass Window Project
Requirements:
- Your stained glass window must include at the minimum 15 individual lines, drawn through the entire coordinate plane, and labelled by number on the edge of your poster.
- The written equations that correspond to your numbered lines must be written on a separate sheet of paper that will be included with your project.
- Additional pictures may be added to your window design. If you would like to incorporate circles or ellipses with your window, this can be done for extra points but the equations for those need to be included as well. Always use a ruler or compass when needed.
- You must color the poster with at least five different colors.
- Make your window as unique and creative as possible. These will be posted all around the classroom!
- Your project must show a high level of accuracy, effort, and thought.
Deadlines:
This project will be broken into three tasks, each with its own deadline.
TASK 1: A rough draft of your design will need to be completed first on grid paper. This should be completed by Thursday, February 16th.
TASK 2: The equations of the lines from your drawing will need to be found. This will be due by Wednesday, February 22rd .
TASK 3: The final project will be due. This includes your final design with lines labelled and a separate sheet of equations. This will be due Wednesday, March 8th.Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
This Week In Language Arts:
We will begin this week taking a look into the experiences of Anne Frank "The Girl Who Lived Forever".This will help to provide some background information about the Holocaust, which is the setting for our next novel, The Boy In The Striped Pajamas. Our reading/ writing focus will be on: interpreting text, text structure, mood, key ideas, inference, characterization, reading for information, supporting a conclusion.
Our effort to increase vocabulary levels continues this with "The Date" Students should have used context clues from the text to identify the 15 vocabulary words used in the format of this story. We will continue interacting with these words this week, and will quiz on the this Friday. They have a link in Google classroom to help with their independent practice as well as what we will be doing in class. https://www.flocabulary.com.
We will begin a "5 A Day Review" which will help reinforce many of the various grammar skills that we utilize regularly in our reading and writing, but may forget their actual purposes.
Most students seem to be back in the swing of TweenTribune. We are in our 3rd week, with the focus being on overall comprehension. Students are being asked to read 6 articles each week by Friday at 3 pm.
FYI...Book 3 of our independent choice reading is due by this Friday, Feb. 17th.
