Updated Information COVID 19
Martinez Unified School District - March 16, 2020
Dear MUSD Community
First and foremost, under these conditions, we can only ask that each parent, student, teacher, and staff member, do the best they can. Recent events have been an extraordinary reminder of how important our schools are to our community. Technology access, food service, consistent and caring adults, peer interaction, social and emotional support, academic development, and structure, are all vital parts of what we provide for students each day. Thank you to our students and parent community for their flexibility and support the last few days as we navigate the challenges of COVID-19.
To the maximum extent possible, MUSD will be in alignment with the “Shelter in Place Order” provided by Contra Costa County. MUSD will be closing down schools and buildings except for essential activities. All school sites will be closed. The District Office will be on a skeleton crew to support food service for students, and some staff will be “on-call” for facilities and/or technology. Food Service for our students will continue. March 17th, and all weekdays through April 3rd, there will be a pick-up point in front of the Martinez Junior High School gymnasium for both cars and walk-ups. Huge thanks and shout-out to our Food Service staff for stepping up for our students!
Our Governor has stated that on March 17th, school districts in California will receive comprehensive guidance regarding school matters as they relate to school closures due to COVID-19. I will review them in detail and provide updates to our community as soon as possible. Working together, we can find solutions and success in these uncertain times. For the next three weeks that schools are closed, staff will be focused on the maintenance of learning and overall support for children. In the coming days, more information will be provided for families regarding the ongoing learning experiences for students.
A lot has changed in the last five days, I am certain more will change in the coming days and weeks. At this time, our scheduled closures (March 16th - April 3rd) and spring break (April 6th - April 10th) will remain in place, with a plan to reopen schools on April 13th. Should there be any changes based on local, state, or federal mandates, I will communicate those updates as quickly as possible. Together, we will support our students, our staff, and our community through these upcoming weeks, and beyond.
