Masks Donated To Flynn School!
Big Thanks go to Tessa and Torrey Valyou Flynntastic parents and proud owners of New Duds. New Duds, a local Vermont T- shirt company, donated 500 mask to the Flynntastic community this summer to ensure everyone -students and staff- have the proper face covering for the start of school !
Flynn Gardens Soar!
There has been a lot of activity in the Flynn Garden this summer! Teachers, staff and SOAR students have benn hard at work, watering, planting, harvesting, exploring, weeding and learning about our garden. Students learned about the different plants in our garden, the life cycle of a plant, how to properly water, how to harvest garlic and potatoes and loved observing the different caterpillars and wildlife living in our garden. So far this summer, over 60 pounds of food have been harvested and given to Flynn community members or donated to Feeding Chittenden. We are looking forward to a large fall harvest of tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, beets, beans and much more. We want to extend a big thank you to Mr. Tim for watering the garden all summer!

Introduction of our new Burlington Kids Team-Lauren Drasler
Hello Flynn Families!
I hope you're all doing well, and enjoying the summer! I’m the new Site Director for Afterschool here at Flynn, and I am so excited to meet you and your students this fall. Prior to my role here at Flynn, I was the Assistant Site Director for Afterschool at the Sustainability Academy, and I have also worked in the Williston School District as well. Over the next few weeks, Abbie (the new Assistant Site Director) and I will be working to develop interesting enrichment and academic opportunities for your students, and our hope is to plan virtual check ins with families as well. We will be reaching out to you all with more information on that soon. Afterschool this fall will look a little different than in years past, but we are excited to get to know all your students and work with you all this year. We will be running our program four days per week, and are looking forward to welcoming back many of our amazing staff members. This year, we will be focusing on academics, building student and staff connections through enrichment activities and we will also continue to provide supper for all students enrolled in Afterschool as well. If you have any questions about Afterschool, please feel free to reach out via email at ldrasler@bsdvt.org.
I look forward to working with and getting to know you all and your students this upcoming year!
Abbie Israel
Hi Flynn Families!
My name is Abbie, and I'm the new Assistant Site Director at Flynn! This is my first year with the Burlington Kids program, and I am so excited to get started. I come to the after-school world from a few different angles. For starters, I went to and worked at the after-school program at my elementary school. That after-school program played a huge role in who I am, and provided me with a strong foundation from my earliest years. I hope to provide for your kids the positive experience and strong start that this program provided for me. In college, I studied early childhood special education, and worked for two years here in Vermont in Early Intervention. Finally, I come from the camp world. For years, I attended and worked at Camp Hochelaga, in South Hero. I currently sit on the Board of Directors of the YWCA of Vermont and chair the Camp Committee for Hochelaga. I feel that all of these experiences prepare me to step into this role with confidence and (more importantly) enthusiasm.
Lauren and I, along with the teams at the other schools, are hard at work figuring out how to make this year safe and successful for our kids and their families. Know that we are doing all we can to ensure that the program is as fun and enriching as always! As Lauren mentioned, we will be reaching out to everyone soon to check in and discuss any concerns you may have. Meanwhile, please feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
We can't wait to get to know you all and hit the ground running with afterschool!
