Build up someone; it strengthens bonds and brightens the day for you both.
Social connection is the strongest predictor of happiness, affirms former Harvard researcher Shawn Achor, author of The Happiness Advantage. And the simple act of expressing praise or thanks is the single most powerful habit his research has found for enhancing these feelings.
Some tips:
- Show appreciation to different people
- Do this at the start of the day
- Don’t assume they’ll respond, but if they do by email, text, or handwritten note, keep it to revisit when you need a boost.
The research behind this activity found that small, daily habits are more important to happiness than major changes like taking a cruise.
