Husky Update for Sept. 20, 2021
News for our Highline Community Elementary School
From Principal Sanchez-Hart
We are well underway with teaching and learning in each of our classrooms! Each of our homerooms have completed our baseline assessments for reading and math and we are now in the process of setting our school goals for growth and achievement with our students. Next week I will share those with our entire community.
We have two amazing moms stepping up to restart our PTCO (Parent Teacher Community Organization). Ms. Tiffani Byrd and Ms. Ashlea Adcock, both 2nd grade parents. Together we are hosting our PTCO meeting on Tuesday, September 21st at 5:30 pm. We will be serving pizza and kids are welcome. We still need at least one more person to complete our PTCO board, and we plan to vote for these positions at this meeting. Give me a call by noon on Tuesday 9/21 at 720-747-2306 to let us know that you are coming, so that we have plenty of drinks and pizza to share.
I still need one other person to serve as our School Accountability Chairperson. This job is about learning where we are as a school with regard to student growth and achievement. Please reach out to me as soon as possible at 720-747-2306 or email me at mailto:dsanchezhart@cherrycreekschools.org

From Assistant Principal Ruiz
Dear Highline Community,
On Thursday (9/16) we had our first whole school fire drill. Our students did a great job evacuating the building quickly and following directions.
Please remind your students of the following:
- Remember to evacuate the building quickly and quietly
- Stay with your class
- If you don’t see your teacher stay with another staff member
- If you are in the restroom and hear the fire alarm, exit through the nearest door and go with a staff member
Together we can ensure the safety of all our Highline Huskies!

Illness at School and Decreasing the Spread: How Can you Help?
Please keep your student/s home from school if they are feeling sick.
If your student has symptoms seen with COVID-19 (regardless of their vaccination status), they should not come to school.
Symptoms of COVID-19 include ANY of the following: Feeling feverish, having chills, temperature of 100.4 F or greater, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, loss of taste and smell, sore throat, runny nose or congestion, muscle aches, headache, fatigue, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea.
We encourage anyone with symptoms to reach out to their healthcare provider and seek out COVID testing.
No-cost COVID testing is available to anyone in the Cherry Creek community who needs a test:
For current Cherry Creek students and staff: https://www.primarybio.com/l/cherry
For friends, family and community members: https://www.primarybio.com/l/cdphe
The best way to prevent experiencing severe illness due to the COVID-19 virus or the upcoming seasonal flu (influenza) virus, is to get vaccinated.
COVID-19 vaccines are available throughout the Denver-Metro area: https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=13483
Seasonal Flu vaccines will be available at most sites after October 1st, but many grocery and drug stores have them available all year.
Information on COVID vaccine clinics and flu shot clinics hosted at CCSD schools will be coming out very soon! Be on the lookout for these clinic dates and time!
Below is a link to a general guide for students experiencing symptoms, when they should stay home and when they can return to school.
Please note, if your student has been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently experiencing symptoms this leads to an automatic 10-day isolation per (Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).

Highline C.A.R.E.S.
Highline Huskies are CARING, have a positive ATTITUDE, show RESPECT, strive for EXCELLENCE and demonstrate SAFETY everywhere!
Please support your child at home in welcoming others and acting and speaking in safe, respectful, and responsible ways. Please tell your child’s teacher if you have questions about specific ways you can help your child with these behaviors at home.
