The Franklin Academy
Weekly Update Newsletter October 17th-21th
HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
Service Elective
Students salute in appreciation for those who serve.
This week Service Elective students made thank you cards that will be sent to the 101st Airborne Division.
Franklin Academy will be honoring those who serve next month during the Veterans Day Assembly, November 10th, at Markell Hall from 10:00 - 11:00 am. All a families are invited. More details to come next week.
What is the Service Elective?
The goal of this course is to aid students in "looking beyond themselves" through participating in service projects. Students will examine different philosophies of serving, head out and serve our community (both in and out of school), and reflect on their experiences. Possible service projects might include neighborhood cleanup, assisting Lower School students, and interacting with senior living residents.

FRANKLIN ACADEMY HAPPENINGS:
The Reading Corner With Mrs. Samuel
Wow! Ya’ll SHOWED UP for our Scholastic Book Fair! Thank you!!!!!!
We don’t have final numbers from them yet, but looking at register receipts and online sales,
we estimate that our school spent $11,000 at the Book Fair! That’s the highest ever.
We also know that a lot of those sales were buying books for teacher wish lists—thank you!
I love knowing that home, classroom, and school libraries are full of brand new books. I know
my house is!
Special thanks to all our Book Fair volunteers, we couldn’t do this with out you. Special shout
out to Rachel Gulleson, who has run the fair for many years and is our expert!
In library class, we have been busy reading books about sharing, one in particular that stars
animals—ask your K-3 student about what job a porcupine should NOT have!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Samuel
