Reopening Schools - Fall 2020
I hope you are taking a moment for yourself to relax and enjoy the special moments in your life.
In preparation for the reopening of school in the Fall, I wanted to share a quick update with you. As many of you know, we have a Reopening School Committee (RSC) that consists of CSEA, ETA, City, and District leadership.
The RSC convened at the beginning of June 2020 and has been instrumental in providing suggestions of how we may open schools in the Fall with instruction, wellness, and safety precautions at the forefront of the planning. A tentative instructional model was presented to the Board on June 24th that included:
Option #1 - Face to face instruction as a Hybrid Model
(e.g., Students would attend school two days per week. Cohort A- Monday/Tuesday and Cohort B - Thursday/Friday, Wednesday - Campus Cleaning, PD, Office Hours)
Options #2 - Distance Learning for students who are medically fragile or would be put at risk by in-person instruction or who are self-quarantining because of exposure to COVID-19.
Here is a link to the board presentation.
The RSC continues to work on the plans to identify the best way to provide support as it relates to nutrition services, social-emotional learning, child care, facilities, and master schedules, to name the few.
With the complexities that currently exist, the RSC acknowledges the need to be nimble and to build an educational program in which all stakeholders can adapt and adjust to the potential changes in the learning conditions. The RSC's planning efforts are certainly valued and appreciated.

Timeline
The RSC continues to meet and will submit the Reopening Schools DRAFT plan by Friday, July 10th. The plan will be reviewed and discussed by the District, City, CSEA, and ETA on Monday, July 13th. After that, the District Leadership will collaborate with ETA and CSEA leadership starting on Wednesday, July 15th, to finalize the plans.
After final revisions, the goal is to share the plan with our staff and families by the end of July or the first week of August.
