10/26 Home and School
We’ve had a very busy week at Young Elementary School.
- The Young Spirit Squad cheered on Young staff and parents at the Naperville Half Marathon and 5K. We had a great time encouraging all of the runners who participated in the race. Thank you to our families and staff members who were a part of the Spirit Squad. Young's Spirit Squad won fifth place in the School Spirit Squad Contest.
- We celebrated Red Ribbon Week and focused on making healthy life choices.
- The fire department visited first grade to talk about fire safety.
- A Naperville police officer from the On Your Own Program visited 3rd grade students and spoke about how students can keep themselves safe using self-care skills when home alone.
- 5th grade students had the opportunity to interact with Granger Middle School band and orchestra teachers to learn about band and orchestra opportunities in 6th grade.
- Author, Ruth Spiro visited with kindergarten through second grade students and spoke about the importance of reading and writing.
- 4th grade students participated in Pumpkin Science.
- PTA volunteers organized and ran awesome Fall Parties for all Young students.
- PTA and Young families sponsored a fun Trunk and Treat for Young students.

District 204 School Safety Community Night
7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Waubonsie Valley High School.
Safety topics include what parents should teach their younger children to help keep them safe, the district’s partnership with police and how school resource officers work with staff and students, ALICE training in schools, a new program that involves a school safety dog, and how students and parents can report safety concerns. All District 204 parents are invited to attend this event. Children are encouraged to attend at their parents’ discretion.
