Employee Spotlight - Mr. Brian Dominy
Congratulations to Mr. Brian Dominy who was recognized for going the extra mile by a parent of a student who rides his bus. Here is what the parent had to say:
I just wanted to take a minute and recognize one of your employees for going above and beyond for a student. My son rides bus #03-52 driven by Mr. Brian Dominy. Every day when he gets home from school he calls his father and I to let us know he is home. Yesterday, he did not call or respond to our calls and texts. I called his driver but he was still on his route and couldn't answer, so my husband had me call you guys to radio him. He had already dropped my son off at home, so my husband left work early.
When Mr. Dominy arrived at the middle school he called me and was very concerned. He asked that I let him know how my son was when my husband arrived at home. When my husband got home he found our son crying on the couch. He had left his phone on the bus and was scared because he had no way to get in touch with us. I called Mr. Dominy to let him know and he was able to find the phone.
He even went as far as to bring my son's phone to him last night when he was finished working. To some, this may seem insignificant, but to our family, it was a major blessing. His concern for my son alone was enough, but he took it a step further and made his entire night. Mr. Dominy is a very good man who loves the students. My husband and I are extremely thankful for his kindness to our son. Troup County is lucky to have drivers like Mr. Brian!
A World in Motion is Turning Again in Troup County Schools
KIA’s partnership with SAE brings great benefits for Science teachers in the Troup County School System. These organizations help fund and support a STEM curriculum called A World in Motion (AWIM). Trainer Andrea Evancho of SAE has completed training sessions for teachers in the elementary division in order to prepare them for implementing the AWIM curriculum in the spring.
These teachers learned about rolling things and making music. As a partner in education, KIA also provides volunteers to help in the classroom with the AWIM experience. These volunteers provide real world insight and knowledge as well as inspiration to students. The student AWIM experience makes them enthusiastic, engaged and educated.

Hogansville Students Visit Prehistoric Ages
Gary Jones’ Discovery students at Hogansville Elementary recently visited Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, GA. Students were immersed in hands-on instruction by certified staff members of the museum, learning about fossils and dinosaurs. During their first class of the day, students made both cast and imprint fossils. Then students were introduced to a real life fossil dig as they were able to be paleontologists and participate in digging for fossils. Using brushes and their fingers, they uncovered ancient dinosaurs and many smaller fossils. One of the big highlights of the trip was being able to be up close to “Stan” the T-Rex.

LaGrange High's Logan Wegienka Plays in State Wheelchair Basketball Championship Game
Logan Wegienka is no newbie to sports. He’s been playing since he was a first grader. Now, he gets to show off his skills as a senior in the Wheelchair Basketball State Championship game in Macon.
As a member of the Henry County Hurricanes basketball team, he travels over an hour to attend regular practices and games; even during the week. When he is not on the basketball court, he can also be seen playing handball and football during the school year. He doesn’t let the schedule overwhelm him or his studies, though. He stated, “It’s been difficult at times but it’s so rewarding. I love the game.”
The long-time sports player admitted that he didn’t see himself in sports and it felt daunting because he felt different from the other kids because of his disability. When his mother was approached by a sports recruiter looking for kids to play wheelchair sports, it changed his outlook. Wegienka said, “I went to my first practice and I was hooked. To be able to play sports is amazing. It keeps me active and gives me something to do. At the same time, if you feel like you are the only one with a disability, it gives you that opportunity to see that you are not the only one. There are a lot of kids with disabilities that are playing these sports. It’s really cool.”
