Catena Colts Connected
Week of 9-29-20
Connected Learning
PM Learning Blocks will be from 2:25-3:35 each day following time for all students to have lunch and recess at home. Small group instruction (intervention/enrichment), teacher/student learning conferences, asynchronous lessons and assignments and related arts classes may be conducted daily within this block of time~but not for the entire time. Teachers will share schedules in their Google Classrooms and students will have personalized learning opportunities across the week! Students will not be required to log-in every day and may complete their asynchronous assignments at time convenient for the family. We value this time as small group instruction and teacher-student conferences allow our staff to target students' needs and personalize learning.
Back to School Night
This is consistently a wonderful opportunity for families to meet staff and learn all about Catena. Join us to find out what's ahead for your child(ren) this school year.
We encourage all families to set aside time on Tuesday, September 29th at 6:15pm to attend, from the comfort of their own homes!

- A small lunch-size paper bag (or a mask lanyard) to place their mask in during snack.
- Students should keep any supplies needed in the classroom & at home in their bookbag.

Water fountains in the school will not be accessible. Students may bring a water bottle with them. Glass is not allowed. Messages on bottles should be school appropriate.

TEMPORARY VISITOR POLICY AND DROPPING OFF STUDENT BELONGINGS
- Phase I of our Restart & Recovery Plan is restrictive and limits access to our school building.
- Visitors will not gain access to our school building when students are present for the school day.
- Please do not bring items to school while students are present. Students will have access to anything they might have forgotten: snack, water, extra masks, technology, etc.
- The use of external bins has been suspended at our district schools until further notice.
- Should your child forget something, call the main office. Our staff will make sure your child has what he/she needs for the abbreviated day in our school building.
Safety Drills
- New Jersey Statute 18A: 41-1 requires schools to hold one fire drill and one school security drill each month. This law has not changed nor has it been suspended during the public health emergency/pandemic.
- Fire drills and school security drills will look different this year due to social distancing protocols.
- In September, all students will be given explicit instruction on how to respond to a building emergency or safety situation.
- A communication drill will also be conducted; this will test our ability to effectively communicate internally with staff and students as well as externally with parents.
- These drills will continue throughout the year in a variety of formats, such as a tabletop discussion with students as well as activities which follow social distancing guidelines.
Arrival & Dismissal
- Doors Open 8:40am
- Dismissal 1:00pm
- PM Virtual Learning Blocks 2:25-3:35pm
At Catena, all entrances and exits will be marked for arrival and dismissal. Look out for our new SuperKid lawn signs for directions! Staff will be stationed outside each day to welcome SuperKids and direct them to the appropriate and assigned entrances. Hand sanitizer will be provided to each student. We encourage families to review these assigned doors/entrances with their children.
Students will come in assigned doors to limit the need for two-way traffic

Signage around the school building will remind our SuperKids and families of the importance of and requirement to socially distance from others. We ask that families discuss with children theses expectations prior to our first Connected Learning Days beginning Monday, September 21st.
When on school property, parents must wear masks at all times and practice social/physical distancing from all others.
Arrival & Dismissal procedures and maps can be accessed below.
Daily Health Screening
As part of your morning routine, please be sure your child(ren)'s Daily Health Screening form is completed every day they will be entering the building.
Log on to Genesis Parent Portal each morning and fill out the survey by 8:30 AM for each of your children(https://parents.freeholdtwp.k12.nj.us/genesis/parents?gohome=true
What happens if a student arrives to school without a Daily Health Screening completed?
If the Daily Health Screening is not completed, students will not be able to start the school day with their classmates. Screening by the school nurse will be conducted and families will be contacted. A parent must then complete the Daily Health Screening along with the nurse or a health assistant and confirm that the child is in good health and has not been in close contact with someone with Covid-19.
