Yelm Community Schools
February 4, 2022
MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
- Ask your student each day, "What did you enjoy about school today?"
- Review your students work together and have them tell you what they learned.
- Check Skyward regularly for missing assignments.
- Set aside time and a quiet space to finish homework.
- Read together.
- Ensure students get ample sleep each day.
- Help students organize their backpacks for school.
When we show interest in school, students are more likely to have a positive attitude about learning, will be encouraged to keep trying, and will ask questions when they need help. Together we can support our students learn and grow.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Please join Yelm Community Schools in celebrating the achievements of African Americans and their central role in American history. February was selected for this observance because it coincides with the birthdays of former President Abraham Lincoln and social reformer, Frederick Douglass. Both leaders played significant roles in ending slavery in the United States. Other countries, including Canada and Great Britain, also devote a month to celebrating Black History.
"In recognizing the humanity of our fellow beings, we pay ourselves the highest tribute."-Thurgood Marshall, first African American U.S. Supreme Court member
