XLT Update
As we enter Term 2 of the school year, we have begun academic XLT rotations. During the first term, XLT consisted of Social-Emotional Lessons (SEL) through Second Step and PBIS programs. SEL days will continue in Term 2 on Mondays and Tuesdays. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays have shifted to academic days where students are grouped to extend learning opportunities or receive interventions.
Empowering All Students Through Restorative Action
Referrals/ODRs (Office Discipline Referrals)
Have you ever had your student or a teacher mention a referral before and wonder what that means? Referrals are documentation of behavioral incidents and parent contact. Referrals are NOT a consequence. They help us look at behavior trends for individual students and groups of students to determine the types of support that can be provided so that our learning environment is respectful, responsible, and safe.
Peer Council
We are very excited to begin recruiting students for our Peer Council. Peer Council is a voluntary, student-led process in which a small group of trained council members provide positive peer influence to students with referrals to understand the impact of their actions and find ways to repair the harm they have caused. Teachers will be submitting student recommendations for Peer Council. Once recommendations have been received, we will ask those students, if interested, to apply to be on the council. They will go through extensive training to learn the restorative process and we hope to be up and running by January 2023.

Clinician Corner
Last month was Suicide Prevention Month and October is Bullying Prevention Month. As many know, bullying is a major contributing factor to suicidal ideations in adolescents. According to StopBullying.gov, "Research indicates that persistent bullying can lead to or worsen feelings of isolation, rejection, exclusion, and despair, as well as depression and anxiety, which can contribute to suicidal behavior." According to StopBullying.gov, "About 20% of students ages 12-18 experienced bullying nationwide." The following article is meant to help understand bullying behaviors and learn ways to teach our kids to stop bullying.

Students should see Mrs. Brogan for details or to order a copy of his new book. Book orders are due by October 12th (see links below):
The LMC will also host a book fair through Anderson's this fall. The carts filled with books will be here November 16th!
