Southport High School Core Beliefs
Putting a Mission into Motion
How do we best serve our diverse community?
The first step in serving anyone is built on trust. A quick google search defines trust as a “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.” Service to our community starts with our belief in those people we are serving.
As we begin our first week of remote learning, I challenge you to take a few moments to reflect on what you believe about our students in this process. Do you think kids will engage? Do you think they will check out? Do you think they will be successful? Do you believe they will not be able to do this on their own?
You cannot push past the trust. Even though our teaching situation is new and our efforts in teaching and learning is now different. We still have to start with trust. If we want our students to be successful in this new environment, we have to build confidence in this process. We have to be there to support our students. Regardless of our situation, our mission is still the same. We must work irrespective of the environment to serve our diverse community to the best of our ability.
Have faith; stay strong; we will get through this together!
More to come next week -- keep working to put our mission into motion! #FlyAsOne

You can borrow books, but not beliefs.
You can borrow ideas, but not understanding.
You can borrow words, but not actions.
You can borrow strategies, but not strength.
Discipline is the shortcut. Do the work.

I appreciated the message from this podcast. There are some really good perspectives about academic needs versus making sure we support our students' social-emotional needs while teaching remotely. This is something we need to put more thought into as we move into remote learning.
