Principal's Message
We had a great week! It was so fun to welcome back our fourth and fifth grade students and staff. Having even more students back has infused another level of energy into CES. We saw lots of smiles from students and teachers. The kids are doing a great job of wearing masks and social distancing. Kids just want to have fun and play with their classmates. Our para-educators are fantastic and continue to work tirelessly to give students some free time outside while being safe as well. It is a tricky task, but our para-educators are the best! Thank you Cedarhome para-educators!
I'm re-reading a favorite book of mine called, "Make Your Bed." It's written by retired Admiral William H. McRaven. His career spanned 37 years as a Navy SEAL and he commanded at every level. Although the book is not specifically based on the character traits, they are easily identified through the actions and words of the Navy SEAL trainees, instructors and Admiral McRave. From Admiral McRaven's University of Texas commencement speech, you can easily feel how being responsible in all we do can make a difference in our life and in the lives of those around us. Here is an excerpt from his speech:
"If you make you bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another task and another. By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter. If you can't do the little things right, your will never do the big things right."
Please take care. Stay safe and healthy.

CES Library News
Currently we are transitioning into book check out for ALL K/5 (in-person) classes. Although the CES library is closed to students at this time, they are able to put books on hold through our library database (Follett/Destiny Discover). Students can explore Follett/Destiny Discover by logging into their Clever account and scrolling down to District apps. Once holds are processed, books are delivered to classrooms and distributed by the teacher. This week I have reached out to a handful of classes, showing them how to use the system etc. Hopefully by the end of next week I will have all tutorials complete and will post a tutorial for families to have at home. CES book hold maximum each week is as follows = K-3 (2 books). Grades 4-5 (3 books). This is an exciting time for our students! Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I am always here to help! mcrimin@stanwood.wednet.edu or 629-1280, ext. 2431
Thank you….. Mrs. Arnestad
Next week: A new reading app for families called SORA! Stay tuned...
Clever Troubleshooting
When students have not logged out of their Chromebooks and just closed them sometimes instead, Clever may ask you to provide a password to log back in. Attached is a link to a tutorial to help you log your student back into the computer without inputting that password.
If you have any questions or concerns please email Renee Barrie at rbarrie@stanwood.wednet.edu or call the help line at 360-403-3966.

Picture Retakes
Hello Cedarhome Elementary Families,
Retake day is here! Firefly Images wants to share with you our very last opportunity for pictures at your school this year! We are so excited to be back in your community one last time. Everyone attending school on-campus will be getting their photo taken, for those who have chosen to continue with remote learning, please sign up for a time using our order form. The order form will walk you through the choices to make signup easy. This picture day is open to those who need a retake and those who are coming to the camera for the very first time. We want to see everyone in the yearbook, so no purchase is necessary.
IMPORTANT: Please do not sign up for a time if your student will be in class on campus on picture day.
Dates: Monday, February 22nd AND Thursday, February 25th
Location: Cedarhome Elementary School
Once again, we will be set up in our socially distanced photo tents and you will be happy to know we have added heat. Since we will be masking up, we ask that you do the same until the moment we take that picture. We will be following all COVID protocols for this activity and continue to have a perfect safety record this year.
If you are getting a retake, don’t forget to return your complete picture package to the photographer in order to complete your order process.

PTO Happenings!
Hello Grizzly Families!
PTO is getting ready for some exciting virtual events and fundraisers! Even with these uncertain times of no volunteers at the school, we still want you to be a member of the PTO! In a normal school year being a member of the PTO means you would be more connected with what's happening at Cedarhome. Staff appreciation days, fundraisers, ice cream and popcorn sales and other great events are an example of what you would be a part of. By completing our membership form, you will be entered in a drawing to win an Instant Pot Air Fryer!! Your form must be submitted by February 26th, 2021.
If you would like to be more involved in the decision making process, we currently have open board positions available. Our Vice President and Secretary positions would love to have you! Please reach out to Amy Walton at Cedarhomepto@gmail.com for more information!
Teachers and staff at Cedarhome love seeing students dressed in our Griz Wear apparel. Please use the form below to order a short sleeve, long sleeve or hooded sweatshirt! Youth and adult sizes available.
