NECP Updates
June 18, 2022 #31
GOOD MORNING NECP FAMILIES!
Good morning - This has been quite a week at NECP. It has been a week of celebrations and a week of sadness. Thank you to all who wrote notes about Melissa Rice. I have shared notes and pictures with staff. They bring such smiles and also such sadness that future NECP students will never meet Melissa. As I said to one parent, the sky is dimmer as it has lost a very bright star.
On a positive note, can you believe Newton HHS and NPS will hold a vaccine clinic for the under 5 year old age at NECP on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022 from 2:30-6:30! The FDA approved last week and we are just awaiting the CDC approving....hopefully today! I cannot believe this day is here...we had no idea when this day would come and we have finally reached it. How exciting!!! I know many of you were disappointed to not get an appointment. Between the Mayor's newsletter and my blast, they were gone in about 25 minutes! More appointments were added and they expanded the time to 6:30 but they still went quickly. If they get more doses and have more appointments or they do another clinic on another day I will alert you as quickly as I can. Cross fingers the CDC approves shortly!!
Finally, be on the lookout for your children's photo proofs if they were here on a picture day. They should be in backpacks on Tuesday! There is a discount if ordered by June 24th so make note of that! Anything ordered will be mailed directly to home addresses.

COVID-19 INFORMATION
NECP had 3 new Covid-19 cases during the week of 6/13/22-6/17/22. We wish them a speedy recovery! If you have not yet read district weekly news, there it was stated, "Given the increase in cases in our community, the Newton Public Schools STRONGLY recommends students and staff wear a mask. A well-fitting mask is very effective in reducing the transmission of COVID."
Please remember to opt-in for the new weekly at-home rapid antigen testing. If you do not have Aspen family access please email aspen@newton.k12.ma.us and ask for your family portal login and password. We will be distributing tests this week. Additionally, we will distribute tests for anyone attending our Extended School Year (ESY) who has opted-in during the first days of ESY. For ESY we will do one distribution so families who have opted-in will receive 3 boxes (6 tests).
- Access the Opt-in form through Aspen parent/guardian account: Aspen
- Follow these instructions once you are logged into Aspen
- An at-home rapid antigen tests kit will be distributed at school every other week. Each kit will contain two tests.
- NPS recommends that all families conduct a rapid test on TUESDAY of each week.
- Here are printed instructions (link) for conducting the test at home. Here is a video tutorial (link) on conducting the test. Translations are included.
- Only positive results need to be reported to the school. You will complete this form (link) to report a positive result. Nurses will provide follow up information to families, including the date for return to school, following a positive test.
In addition to the weekly at-home rapid antigen testing program, we will continue in-school symptomatic testing for students and staff that develop symptoms during the school day. We will discontinue the Test and Stay testing program and contact tracing. Please be vigilant in checking your student for symptoms, conducting the daily health assessment, and staying home when sick.
All testing information can be found on our website here: NPS COVID Testing Webpage. Also here is a FAQ.
Sincerely,
NPS COVID Testing Team
