TCU Lonsdale K-6
March Newsletter
Dear Families,
We are now into the final three months of the school year! This weather has been amazing and it has been great for students to get outside with their classmates. Please continue to prioritize attendance so students can engage in meaningful learning experiences each day. The final quarter of the year is coming up soon and there are many hands on opportunities and experiences that students will get to be apart of.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Take care,
Tony Johnson

I Love to Read Month Recap!
Wow! We had a month of fun and students showing a passion for reading. Our theme was "Reading is a Hit" and our students knocked it out of the park. Students participated in reading BINGO and could redeem treats from our concession stand, high school baseball and softball players read to students, the Lonsdale Aces visited Lonsdale to read, TC Bear put on an amazing assembly, and we got to end I Love to Read month with a pitching contest and student performance! We are so proud of our students and their passion for learning. Also, thank you to Mackenthuns for donating popsicles to our BINGO blackout winners.
Career Speaker
John Liebelt was the community guest speaker at TCU Lonsdale in February. John works as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at Spineology. The students enjoyed learning more about what he does and how what he makes can help people. Thank you for coming to share with our students!
APEX School Fundraiser
We will be doing our Apex fundraiser again this school year! The fundraiser will run from March 4th-13th. This year we will be raising money for more learning experiences for our students. This could be more money for field trips or for grade levels to bring people or activities into their classrooms.
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. All of the money goes back to our students experiences at school. Please ask your child about our Apex fundraiser.
Kindergarten Round-Up!
6th Grade Biz Town Trip
Junior Achievement BizTown is a popular learning experience for elementary and middle school students that combines teacher-led- in class learning, and an opportunity to visit a simulated town. This neat experience allows students to learn a variety of different things such as operating a bank, managing a business, writing checks, and voting for mayor. Students learn what it is like to manage money through banking practices, they continue to learn about their role as a citizen in the community, and they begin to develop the necessary skills in order to be successful in the real world of work.
TCU Art Show!
Please see the information below for the TCU Art Show.
STEAM Activities!
Here are some of the lessons from February:
- Storytelling
- Classifying & thinking like an engineer
- Invention Convention - Problem Solving
Many of the projects include solving problems or creating something with limited resources. They then need to come up with a plan and learn by doing. It has been great to see their curiosity and collaboration in groups!
Note from the Health Office
Hello TCU families,
With the cold weather and the holiday season upon us it is peak time for illness. According to
the Minnesota Department of Health the number of respiratory illnesses such as influenza,
COVID, RSV, and common colds circulating currently is very high.
Influenza and COVID are contagious diseases of the respiratory tract (nose, throat, and lungs)
that can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia and the worsening of other chronic
health conditions. Flu and COVID symptoms may include fever, headache, extreme tiredness,
cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and muscle aches. The best way to protect your family
from influenza and COVID illnesses is to get vaccinated.
If your student has a fever greater than 100 degrees fahrenheit, vomiting and/or diarrhea, or is
not feeling well enough to fully participate in their school day they must stay home from school.
They may not return to school until they have been fever free (without the use of fever reducing
medications like Tylenol or Motrin) and vomit/ diarrhea free for 24 hours and they are feeling
well enough to participate fully in their school day.
If you need to call or email the school office to report your child will be absent due to illness
please be as specific as possible with their symptoms. Make sure to let the office staff know
if your child has a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and any other symptoms they are having. The
health office staff is responsible for monitoring and tracking illnesses and the more information
we gather from parents/guardians regarding illnesses the better we can help prevent the spread
of illness in our schools.
Here is a list of the best prevention strategies you can do to keep yourselves and your children
healthy:
1. Get your Flu and Covid vaccines
2. Wash your hands frequently
3. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose (this is one way viruses enter our bodies)
4. Clean/disinfect high touch surfaces often (light switches, door handles, remote controls
etc)
5. Cover your cough with your elbow instead of hands
6. Get plenty of sleep
7. Eat healthy food
8. Exercise regularly
On behalf of the health services team at TCU, I appreciate your support and cooperation during
this “illness” season. I have included a couple of helpful links for reliable resources for prevention and care during illness guidance. If you have any questions or concerns please do
not hesitate to contact me.
I wish you a wonderful and healthy Holiday season!
