PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE
Thank you to everyone who was able to come to parent-teacher conferences.
Having open communication between school and home is just one of the things that makes school successful for students. While I’m sure you heard about some things your child could work on, I hope you were also able to take away some of the amazing highlights about their time here with us too! Some of the BIG things that I hope you took aways from conferences with your child’s teacher are:
Your child is VERY important to us!
When we work as a team, we can truly make an impact.
Communication is very important! Whether it’s a phone call, an in-person visit, or a note in a folder - communication from school to home (and vice-versa) can help set a child up for success.
We are so excited about what is happening at school this year, and we hope that you can share our enthusiasm!
HALLOWEEN PARTY
If students choose to wear costumes:
1. Costumes must be in good taste and not represent horror movies or violent themes.
2. Costumes will not contain guns, knives, swords, hatchets or any other type of weapon.
3. Costumes, makeup, and masks that depict blood will not be allowed.
4. Do not send children to school wearing their costumes or any part of their costume.
5. Makeup will not be worn throughout the day. Students will be given a reasonable amount of time to prepare for the parade. (Parade begins at 2:30)6. Classroom parties--watch for letters home from classroom teachers with more details on each party.
SCHOOL SAFETY
If the barricades are not in place by 7:30 a.m., please do NOT drive through the street between the elementary and high school building as the street is still considered closed.
Do not drive through barricades during the school day. Once they are across the street, the students assume that no one will be driving through the streets and therefore do not look before crossing the street. In the morning, the first barricades in front of the elementary are moved for buses to arrive. They are not moved for parents to drive through.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation in this matter. With having nearly 100 elementary students crossing after walking club it is crucial that we ensure their safety.
ARRIVAL TIME FOR MORNING ACTIVITIES
Students should NOT arrive at school before 7:50 a.m. unless they are participating in the breakfast program or walking club.
Breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. Please do not send students prior to 7:30. The weather is going to start getting colder and I don’t want students to have to wait outside in the cold. If they get here after 7:30, they don’t have to wait!
Walking Club starts at 7:40 a.m. - It’s great to see so many students getting exercise in the morning! Walking with them gets my day started off just right!
Student absences should be reported to the office (582-3808) between 7:30 and 8:15 a.m. This “call-in” procedure is designed to protect your child by providing clear communication. Ms. Patsy will begin calling to find students who are unaccounted for by 8:30.
LUNCH ACCOUNTS
Plainview Public School is participating in the USDA’s waiver which allows schools to operate the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) for School Year 2021-2022. All students will receive meals at no cost for the entire 2021-2022 school year. However, extra snack milks and extra entrees and a la carte items are still at the cost of the family. If you are getting balance notifications or statements in the mail, please continue to send money for these items.
We have a service offered for parents to pay for their child’s school lunch account using a credit or debit card. This service will allow parents to pay directly inside PowerSchool. This will allow you to view your child’s daily cafeteria purchases, set meal limits, and make payments directly to their lunch account. There is a fee to parents of $2.75 per $100.
This is just another option, we still accept cash and checks.
TECHNOLOGY
Our elementary teachers have seriously stepped up how they are using technology in the classrooms this year! You should ask your student some of the cool things that they are doing and creating when they are using the laptops and iPads at school.
Third-sixth grade teachers have been using Google classrooms to help streamline educational workflow, give announcements, post assignments, share videos/links/websites/sources, and organize classwork. Lower elementary students have been able to use iPads to create and explore a world beyond the four walls of their classrooms.
All students in grades K-6 have recently been given access to IXL. IXL is an AMAZING and FUN online tool that is aligned to Nebraska State Standards and allows teachers to choose skills for students to work on and master. Students can then master skills and earn prizes as they go. It’s fun, engaging, and encouraging! It really is a win-win! The best part is - it’s accessible from home! Please talk to your child’s teacher if you haven’t seen login credentials yet!
