Athey Notes
Week 16
Welcome to Week 16
Dear Athey Community,
Just because we are getting closer to our winter break doesn't mean we are slowing down. Friday was an eventful day here at Athey Creek!
We finished the school day Friday with a student led assembly to celebrate our Turkey Trot Fundraiser. It was definitely an action packed event complete with games - jingle bell bounce, snowball toss, and balloon popping - followed by a student fashion show to demonstrate spirit week inspiration for next week, a pie eating contest for the staff and wrapping up with well deserved thank yous. Athey Creek would like to thank all of the families that were able to donate, whether it was your collection of pennies to the coin challenge or your online donations to the fund itself, it is greatly appreciated! The money raised will help pay for so many activities for students! THANK YOU!
That wasn't the end of our day though, we followed up with the main event for Athey Idol! Thirty ACMS students sang, danced and emoted their hearts out to raise money for their choir and drama programs. Judge's choice awards as well the big Athey Idol winner were announced but everyone who participated truly deserved a prize for braving that stage and runway to help their school! We are so proud to have so many students give generously of their time and talents! A huge thank you to the students who volunteered to be stage crew, keeping those acts in line, running the lights, sound and so much more, your help made the show possible! We also cannot forget to say thank you to the parent volunteers who set up 600 chairs, blew up countless balloons, organized tickets, found sponsors and everything else - THANK YOU!
We will continue the fun this week with Spirit Week and an orchestra concert. If your family will be beginning their winter break early, please make sure to call our attendance line to let us know - 503- 673 -7425.
Have a great week!

We are grateful to all of the students who participated and showed their support for their program, whether they were running lights/sound, singing on the runway or backstage wrangling acts or ushering/ticket sales, it was amazing to see you give so generously with your time and talents. And we cannot forget to thank the parents behind the scenes, you are invaluable to making this event happen, we are EVER SO grateful for you all for stepping up and giving your time! THANK YOU ALL!!
Every single student who sang their hearts out deserves a prize! To be so brave in middle school and step on that stage is tremendous! But Athey Idol is both a contest and a fundraiser. Our judges deliberated and were able to agree on three acts as their top most entertaining acts and then the audience votes are tallied and an award is given to the act that has raised the most money!

Lost and Found/ Lunch Boxes
Now is a great time to remind your students to go through the lunchboxes leftover in the cafeteria. Leftover food molds and attracts rodents so any left at the start of break will be thrown away.
Student Health Survey
Our 6th and 8th grade students will be participating in the Oregon Student Health Survey on Tuesday, December 13th. The Student Health Survey (SHS) is a collaborative effort between the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education to improve the health and well-being of all Oregon students to help them succeed. Good health is an essential educational tool. Research shows that healthy students have better attendance, get higher grades and test scores and are less likely to skip school, drop out or engage in risky behaviors. The Student Health Survey is the only source of statewide data that gives a snapshot of how students are doing physically, emotionally and socially.
West Linn-Wilsonville COVID-19 Reminders
WLWV continues to support the health and safety of our students and staff. All students and staff members are expected to monitor for signs and symptoms of illness. As we move through this pandemic, community support has grown and access to COVID-19 tests are more readily available in the community. A school may send a student home with an at-home test in certain situations, but onsite testing is not available.
If you are seeking more regular testing, Oregon Health Authority does support a staff screening program (linked here). Students and staff are required to isolate at home in the event they test positive for COVID-19 or if they are exhibiting 2 or more COVID-19 symptoms. Please use this screening tool to determine whether or not you or your student should come to school.
