Wilson Reading
Ms. Sorenson
April 26th, 2024
We are in the final stretch of the school year. There are only 34 days left and a lot to still accomplish. Students have just begun their word work study of words containing double vowels. They will be focusing on these sounds one at a time starting with ai and ay which both make the long a vowel sound. Spelling options with these two new sounds for long a will be a main focus.
In addition to word work, students will be reading the short novel, "A Long Walk to Water". This novel is about two characters living at different time periods in the same country. Students will be working on keeping track of both characters' journeys, creating a double timeline to practice sequencing of events, identifying important plot elements, and summarizing. They will be comparing the characters and identify how and why these characters changed over time.
WEEKLY LONG BLOCK:
During our weekly long block students continue to build their independent reading stamina, by reading narrative and informational texts and reflecting on their reading by "Asking Questions," "Making Predictions," "Making a Connection," "Summarizing", "Setting Effect", "Characterization", "Identifying Text Features" and "Main Idea/Details" .
Google Classroom and Powerschool
Google Classroom is used in my class as a way to share assignments and for students to turn in assignments. I also share resources and electronic activities on Google Classroom. When I am absent I will use Google Classroom to share my expectations for class that day and assignments to be worked on while I'm absent. I do not give grades to assignments on Google Classroom.
Grades for assignments and messages about retakes are posted to powerschool. Please reach out if you have a question about an assignment or any other grade related query.
