Safety Drills
Each year, schools in Wake County will practice a few drills to make sure we know what to do in case of an emergency. We will engage the students in monthly fire drills, a severe weather drill in the spring, and two lockdown drills. These drills are meant to ensure that we don't have to stop and direct students at the time of the emergency, but to make sure our students know exactly what to do to be as safe as possible, given the signal or code to act in case of an emergency. So far, our students have already had one fire drill, and quickly and quietly left the building. In the coming weeks, we will engage students in our first lockdown drill, and I know that as in the past, they will do a great job of listening and following directions. As always, we will use our strategies to help students see the drill as a no-stress event. We appreciate your support in conversations with students about the value of such drills.
