Dinosaur Dig Pit
If you have ever been outside at recess at GES, you have probably seen kiddos digging in the dirt. They are so in love with exploring and getting to know nature and their environment. This gave us an idea- what if we had a DIG PIT that students could dig for things at recess?
We have been awarded Foundation Grant to do just that! However, GES needs some matching funds to make this happen! We have the following incentives to help us reach our goals. Classes will be collecting cash or checks until Wednesday May 16.
Class goal of average $4.00 per student = extra recess
School goal of $3200= tape staff to the wall
School goal of $4100= staff camping in front of the school
School goal of $5000= Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Laffey camping on the roof!

Art Room News
A big thank you to everyone who donated yarn and assembled looms for our students. The students really enjoy weaving! All students will soon bring home their portfolio with their artwork from the year. I hope you are able to take a look through their work together once it is home.
K: Last month we talked about how colors can reflect an artist's feelings with the book, My Many Colored Days. We also learned about the the artist Mark Rothko and created an artwork in his style. Currently we are doing pinch pots with clay, and will soon do weaving.
1st: First grade learned about how colors can show feelings in art. We made an artwork inspired by the illustrations in My Many Colored Days. We also created a texture tile in clay and will finish with a weaving project.
2nd: Our clay project was making an owl and adding texture. Most students should have brought theirs home by now. We are finishing up with weaving.
3rd: Students enjoyed making a clay dish and adding textures. Ceramic glazes were added and students learned about the process of how clay is fired to result in the shiny surfaces. Our final project is weaving on a circle-shaped loom.
4th: Students combined a printmaking project of a symbol that represents who they are. This image was used in a collaged self-portait of images that reflects their life. Our last project is weaving on a circle-shaped loom.

Spring Notes from the Nurse
Hello Families:
Spring has finally arrived! Unfortunately for those children who suffer from seasonal allergies it can be a challenging time with red, itchy eyes, coughing and other symptoms of the season.
Please remember that we do Not have allergy medicine to give at school. You should dose your children in the morning before school if they need medication. In addition, if your child has fair, sun sensitive skin, remember to apply sunscreen before sending them in the morning. With the sun finally shining, we are beginning to see some sunburns after recess.
Sincerely,
The Nurses at Geist
We are all unique wall is coming soon!
Hatching the ducklings was such a fun experience for our students!
