We are a school rooted in its community where aspirational learning and opportunities transform the lives of our pupils. Our Mission is to transform lives and strengthen our communities to make the world a better place
Secondary Update - 26th April 2024
Dear CEC families
It is amazing what difference the sun can make! I hope you have all been able to enjoy some of it at some point this week and that it continues into the weekend.
It was lovely to see so many of you this week at the Pupil Progress and Well-being evening. Our PPW’s evenings are an opportunity for you to discuss your child's report (progress & attainment) with their tutor, discuss your child's wellbeing and any general questions or concerns you may have. This is different to the old model of parents/carers evenings which were once per year, as PPW’s will take place each term (three times per year), allowing you to have more touch points with us as a school.
It was great that so many pupils and families from CEC attended the official Skatepark opening event on Saturday. You can find a lovely video from the day on the Town Council Facebook page
rePHRASE
A massive ‘well done’ to Year 8 who engaged in sex and relationships education on Wednesday with maturity and readiness to learn. We were pleased to welcome back PJ from rePHRASE South West to deliver a workshop on consent to Year 8 as part of our Personal Development programme.
It was a pleasure to see Year 8 exploring their thoughts on consent and some of the questions asked were absolutely fantastic and evidenced their commitment to understanding a topic which can often be challenging. We look forward to welcoming PJ back in the future!
GCSE Update
This week, the MFL department completed our French and Spanish spoken exams and our art students completed their 10 hour practical exam. Well done to everyone on what was a very busy week!
Over the next couple of weeks, students will complete Chinese and Polish spoken exams, and our first GCSE Written paper for Science takes place on Friday 10th May. Good luck to all involved!
If you have any questions about exams at CEC, please email Mrs Jones, or visit cranbrook.education/exams
Cycling to school
A polite reminder to families that cycle or scoot to school that these should not be ridden on site. We ask please for you to dismount from your bike / scooter at the school gates and use the shelters provided. Thank you
Trust Review statements
- Pupils display respect for difference and the role they play in crafting a welcoming culture for all. They consider Cranbrook to be welcoming to all pupils and teachers and this is evident in the settling of the significant numbers of refugees and in-year admissions.
- Leaders have established a strong and consistent commitment by all staff to pupils’ personal development. Pupils feel well supported due to the strong pastoral systems and the broad range of adults to whom they can refer any worries. End of day appreciations and assemblies also contribute to the enhancement of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
- The development of the transition booklets smooth pupils’ move from Year 6 to Year 7, as do the growing links from primary to secondary and the increasingly consistent practice.

Learning
Year 11 Update
I am so proud of our year 11s this week. French and Art exams have finished this week and pupils have been engaged in their exams.
The summer exam timetable is available and has been handed out to pupils. Please get in touch if you have NOT received an exam timetable. To ensure pupils are ready for their exams we will continue to run period 6 intervention on Wednesdays which we expect y11 to attend.
Thank you to all our families who engaged in Pupil Progress and Wellbeing evenings this week. It has been excellent catching up with parents and guardians about how we can support our children in this final few weeks.
There will be an important letter which will be sent out next week which will include all the information needed before the exams begin.
If you have any questions please contact the HoY Alex Hawkins
