Language Arts
Writing:
We are starting another Informational (non-fiction) unit. We will learn to 'teach' instead of 'telling" a story. Earlier in the year, we wrote to teach "All About" something. This unit will focus on writing to teach "How to" do something.
Reading:
We will practice using our vowel power to help:
- instantly decode CVC words when reading.
- hear and identify short vowel sounds to write words
- spell sight words correctly
- recognize that y can be used as a vowel
- to begin to decode words with more than one syllable.
Students continue to practice and master the different sight word lists on the Rainbow. Praise your littles often for their hard work as they continue to progress.
Congratulations to those students who have completed their whole rainbow! Happy Reading!
We will continue comparing numbers using terms such as more than, less than, equal to to describe the relationship between two numbers.
We continue to practice counting forwards to 100 from ANY number, not just always starting at one. For example, can your child start at 26 and count to 60?
We practice counting backwards from 20.
Science and Social Studies
In Science, we will study Day and Night
In Social Studies, we will continue our unit on American Presidents and Patriots.

Valentine's Box Instructions
- Your child may choose a book and create a valentines box that represents the book's setting, characters, or theme.
- Your child will also create a book report to accompany the box. (See attachment below for printable copy. This was sent home in your child's MOOSE folder last week)
- They will present the report on the day of the party.
Reminders: Make sure that the opening is large enough to fit large valentine's cards or candy. It is a good idea to make sure that the lid can be removed easily, in case valentines do not fit through opening.
