Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief
Our class has begun a novel study of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. We are 5 chapters in and loving the book! The story tells the tale of Perseus, a boy who does not know he is the son of the Greek god, Poseidon. Lots of other characters from Greek mythology appear in the story so we are also studying Greek mythology as companion texts for the book. The book is one of a series, so if your student is enjoying it there is more to read after! You can find the whole series list here.
Division!
Our students are working on division for the next math unit, and while they will eventually learn the standard algorithm that you most likely learned in school, they will also be learning a few other strategies for dividing. Currently we are working on a strategy called partial quotients. This strategy is new for many parents!
You can find a quick video tutorial on partial quotients here.
If you'd prefer to read the steps of the process you can find a guide here.
Middle School Tours
Students from our classroom will be visiting the Middle School for hour-long sessions on February 2nd. Students will have the opportunity to tour the building and speak with a student ambassador about life in middle school.
