Peer Connections
Students in Mrs. Kennedy's MiCI class and student council "Peer Connections" were awarded the MLK Day of Service grant from the Michigan Community Service Commission and their partner, Michigan Nonprofit Association. The grant allows service projects that reflect on Dr. King's life and teachings.Students brought in some hygiene items from home for the Jackson Interfaith Shelter. Students also went shopping together to purchase items such as toiletries, snacks, socks and bottled water to fill bags for the homeless who arrive to the shelter. McDonald's gift cards were also purchased to add to the bags. Students delivered the bags to the shelter and were appreciated! After the service project, the students went to work on large motor skills at Maximum Gymastix in Spring Arbor. It was a great day for our Mounties in making a difference in our community!
Talent Show
Please join us on Wednesday, February 5th for the annual Northwest Elementary Talent Show! The National Honor Society of Northwest High School sponsors our annual talent show at Northwest High School Cafetorium to encourage our young students to share their talents, and to raise money for local patients at Allegiance Hospital. This tradition was started by alumna Shannon Watts, for her program Shannon's Helping Hands, which is a charity for cancer patients. All proceeds from the $3 admission fee and bake sale are donated to Allegiance Cancer Center to any patient in need. We hope to see you there!

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Drop-Off
Pick-Up
If you will be picking your child up, please make sure to send a note to the teacher, or call the office. If calling the office, please do so before 3:00 p.m. This will allow us to get lists finalized and given to the teacher. If you call after this time, your request unfortunately will not be honored. We will not pull children off the bus for late calls. You will need to meet them at the bus stop. When picking up your child please park in a designated parking spot and not along the drop-off curb. Make sure to bring a photo ID. Parents are asked to wait in the cafeteria until students are dismissed. Students will be dismissed by grade starting at 3:32 p.m on full days, and 2:27 p.m. on Early Release days. When exiting the parking lot please do not turn around in the Lansing Avenue Baptist Church parking lot.
Parking Lot
Thank you for your continued patience with the volume of traffic during our drop-off and pick-up times! You are doing a fantastic job of parking in parking spaces, driving slowly in the parking lot and being timely in your efforts. Please remember when dropping off a student to only drop them off when you have reached the sidewalk.
Morning Tardiness
We encourage promptness since tardies affect everyone and disrupt classroom time. One of the most valuable life skills a student can learn from his/her parent/guardian is the responsibility of arriving at school every day on time. Morning is the time when important school news is announced, teachers define the plans for the day, and instructional goals are reviewed and set. The whole tone of a child’s school day is set in the first part of the day.
Main doors open at 8:15 a.m.
School starts at 8:25 a.m.
Students not in their classroom seat by 8:35 a.m. shall be considered tardy.
If the supervisory aides are not present when you drop off your student, they are tardy. Please make sure to come in the office and sign them in.
Students who arrive after 9:00 a.m. will be marked as a morning absence.
Doctor appointments/professional appointments are excused with a doctors note.
Students must be in school at least half of the day, to count as a full day.
Please help support your child in learning habits that will help them be successful at school and throughout life. If you need help or have concerns getting your child to school on time please contact the office. We are here to help.
Medicine Procedures
- Do not send any medication on the school bus. Medication could easily be taken by the wrong child when it is not monitored by an adult. It is the parent's responsibility to bring medication into the Northwest Elementary office and check it in with a secretary.
- Over-the-counter medications (cough drops, Tylenol, Tums) must have a doctors order.
- No staff member will be permitted to dispense non-prescribed, over-the-counter (OTC) medication to any student with out a medication form filled out by a prescribing physician.
