The Eagle Express
A newsletter for families and friends of Athens Elementary!
April 9, 2018
A Note from Ms. Davis
Dear Families,
Well, we are coming down the home stretch! This is the last period of the school year and it's packed full of activities, celebrations, and preparations. Please scroll all the way to the bottom of this newsletter for important dates and notices.
We have BIG NEWS to share! Our teachers, staff, students, and advisory council have chosen the name for our new academy and the ACS Board has given us their stamp of approval! In the fall, we will be called INNOVATION ACADEMY at Athens Elementary (or iAcademy for short). We will offer the same outstanding foundation for students with an enhanced component of computational thinking and problem based learning. :)
Mrs. Dennis is getting ready for her incoming 4th and 5th graders at AIS! On May 7th, our students will travel by bus with their teachers to visit her for a Meet and Greet at AIS.
- 3rd grade at 9:00
- 4th grade at 12:30
With the transition to elementary academies, there has been some discussion about students wearing uniforms. I'd like to know how you feel about that idea. Please participate in the UNIFORM SURVEY by clicking the link below. Brookhill and Julian Newman families have completed the same survey.
The student teachers at Athens State University will work with a few of our teachers in June to provide a SUMMER ENRICHMENT program. It will serve incoming students in grades 1 - 3 from June 18 - 28, Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 - 12:00. Enrollment will be limited. More details will be sent home soon.
The computer science advisory council will meet this week to continue working toward our academy's 5-year plan.
I look forward to seeing you at some of our closing ceremonies. It will be fun to celebrate this year of learning. At AES, we are committed to "finishing strong." If I can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to call or come by.
Sincerely,
Cindy Davis,
Principal

Pre-Kindergarten Registration
March was registration month for Pre-K. Families gathered one evening to learn about the difference in OSR (Office of School Readiness) and Eagle's Nest Pre-K. They got to hear from the teachers and visit the classrooms.
