Key Information:
Student Wellness Day (March 1) - Special Event Schedule PM. The event will start with a whole-school assembly in the gym. Please be there promptly by 2. We will need each grade level to split into four mixed groups (4th and 5th will use specials groups). From the whole-school meeting, groups will participate in two sessions (30 min each) run by local experts, parent volunteers, or staff members. Locations and schedules will be distributed today or Monday. Please split your grade level and submit to me and Lauren by Tuesday. Our final 'touch up' meeting will be Tuesday after school if you are interested.
Road to the Reading Final Four - Don't forget to keep reading so that we can enjoy the books little by little in a manageable and FUN way. Invite guest readers (me included!) to help with the fun. Mr. Colavita is interested in reading to classes at any time - shoot him an email to invite him if you'd like. And don't forget to tweet to #BearTavernReads as well as using our TWITTER HANDLE LIST to include the author's twitter handle when possible. We still need some readers for our recordings, but we are off to a good start (thanks Mandi!). To sign up to read aloud for a video CLICK HERE.
Student Conduct/Discipline Form - If you run into a situation in which a student needs support from the office relating to choices that he/she made I'd like you to save the following link (I'll put it in a stand alone email as well so it's easily searchable) CLICK HERE FOR LINK. The purpose of the link is to provide some quick, but really important, information to me in real time without having to leave the classroom or talk on the phone in front of students. If anyone needs my assistance it is imperative that I understand why and that you use concrete terms so that I understand exactly what happened. This will keep me from having to ask the student 'what happened,' and spend time trying to piece together why he/she is there. The form is short and straight forward. Open it up and take a look, even if you don't have to use it so that you are familiar. Let me know if you have any questions.
St. Baldrick's - For the 3rd straight year, we'll be having a team for the St. Baldrick's Fundraiser on March 10th at Amalfi's in Lawrenceville. The fundraiser fights Childhood Cancer. Last year, we had 25 team members and raised over $10,600. In case any students ask or talk about it; here are the details: CLICK HERE for the link to join the team.
GRANTS!!!!!! - The HVEF deadline is coming sooner than we think! The spring cycle is due 3/9. Please click for each: Grant Application Form, Grant Application Guidelines, HVEF Grant Rubric

A Note From the Principal:
Happy Friday!
The taste of warm weather this week was really energizing. Before we know it, we'll be cruising into spring, so take that feeling and let it motive you and get you excited.
I just want to take a quick moment to say "Thank You" and to reflect for a moment about how special our staff is. The last few weeks have been tough for me and at least for the foreseeable future I'll be spending a lot of time at UPenn or another location for my dad. Please just know that I appreciate everyone's teamwork and flexibility. Also, please just let me know if you need anything or have a question, and PLEASE follow up if I don't get right back to you. I'm working on it!
The way that we support each other, across the board, is very special. Let's work continue to be kind, supportive and helpful to each other. There will inevitably be frustrations and potholes in the day to day schedules, events and even interactions between individuals sometimes, but when you take a step back, the important thing is that we care for and really support our kids and our colleagues. Take a moment to notice and celebrate when someone helps you and be the person who steps up to give a friend a boost. We have all of the tools to be a really unique and incredible school.
Thank you so much for all that you put it. Let's keep it going!
Sincerely,
Chris
