Toll Gate Tidbits
April 13th, 2024
A Note from Mrs. Lauri
Greetings Toll Gate Families,
I hope this email finds everyone well rested and relaxed from spring break, ready to take on all of the excitement that comes with the end of the school year! During this past month, as a school community, we held a very successful evacuation drill, engaged in a Gator Group Gathering to practice cooperation, visited the TG Book Fair, and enjoyed viewing the solar eclipse!
Throughout the month of April, through Character Strong, the students will be focusing on the importance of courage. In connection with focusing on climate change throughout the month, we will discuss the importance of having the courage to take care of the Earth and how are actions can positively affect climate change. Our students in grades 3-5 will have a chance to participate in the Science Fair Expo while students in 1st grade will participate in an Arbor Day celebration and our Kindergarteners will hold an Earth Day celebration. More information on specific dates will be shared below.
On May 1st, we will be celebrating May Day, now known as Earth Day Celebration. As a part of our Earth Day celebration, we will continue the tradition of 5th grade students taking on a main role of the celebration through the weaving of the Eco Spire. Our various color ribbons will be woven together to represent the interconnectivity of nature and humanity and will be the grand finale of our Earth Day Celebration! We are hoping for great weather and invite all families to attend our celebration at Toll Gate at 11:30am, as each grade level will be participating in the event. More information found below!
As always, please reach out with any questions.
With Thanks,
Melissa Lauri
Science Fair Expo
We will be hosting our Science Fair Expo on Wednesday, April 24th in the gym. We invite the parents of students participating to join us for the expo at 3:00pm. Please be sure to sign into the main office upon arrival!
Earth Day Celebration- May 1, 2024 11:30am
We will be holding our Earth Day celebration, formerly known as May Day, on Wednesday, May 1st at 11:30am in the back field of Toll Gate. Each grade level will be participating in the event. Please bring chairs or blankets to sit on the back field for our presentation. In the event of rain, we will be moving our celebration into the gym, however, in an effort to safely fit into the gym, we will only be able to allow 5th grade parents to attend. More communication will be shared in the event of rain. Fingers crossed for beautiful weather so we can celebrate as a full school community!
Student Illnesses
Please remember that a student must be fever free, without medication, for 24 hours, before returning to school from ANY illness that includes fever as a symptom.
Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must stay home and away from others until your symptoms improve and you are fever-free (without medication) for 24 hours. It is suggested that you wear a mask for an additional 5 days.
After an illness involving nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea, students should remain home until eating and drinking normally and symptoms have resolved.
Please remember to call the Telsafe line, 609-737-4008, option 2, for any absence and tardiness.
Please reach out to the health office for any questions.
Telesafe for Daily Attendance & Attendance Letters
It is pertinent that we have accurate daily attendance to ensure the safety of your children. If your child will be absent or will be reporting to school late, please call our Telesafe line at 609-737-4008, option 2. Please refrain from only emailing the classroom teacher and Ms. Smith, the school nurse, to report attendance. In the event a teacher or Ms. Smith is absent for the day, only Telesafe is checked for absences, their emails are not. Ms. Smith will continue to call home to ensure your child's safety, if your child is not in school and we did not receive a phone call through telesafe stating that would be absent.
During the month of February, we shared out letters to families to notify you of how many absences your child/children have. Any student that has accrued has more than 6 absences will be sent a letter. Please know that if you receive a letter, it is just for information purposes. You be not be required to take any action.
