Greeting Card Exchange
I am very excited to announce that we will be participating in a world wide greeting card exchange this year. Our class will be creating 30 greeting cards with a theme of lights. These cards will be sent to 30 other participating classrooms around the world. We will then in turn received 30 cards. We will be mapping all the locations we are sending and receiving cards as well as having the opportunity to Skype with some of these classrooms and learn what life is like in 1st grade around our country and possibly even the world. The link below will take you to the website for this project if you would like to find out more about it. I am in need of a few items for this to be successful. If you would be willing to send in any of the items listed below by November 25, it would be greatly appreciated.
- white cardstock
- wrapping paper or scrapbook paper (with a winter, lights or holiday theme)
I think this will be a very fun project for the class!
Coming up next week...
Writing - we will be continuing our fiction stories. We will continue learning about and identifying nouns and verbs. We will also be focusing on having a complete sentence that starts with a capital letter, ends with the correct punctuation, and makes sense.
Math - we will continue to work on our measurement unit. We have been talking a lot about using both standard and non-standard units to measure items as well as finding the longest and shortest items in a group. As always, we will continue to practice those math facts.
Social studies - we will begin our unit on economics. We will be learning about needs vs. wants, as well as goods and services.
First grade will be starting a project that is focused on family traditions and how we can respect all traditions in our classroom and TCE. You will see an interview paper coming home very soon that will help us in the classroom.
