Discovery Education
Discovery Education is now fully integrated into Canvas. Students/teachers will not need to use a separate login for each service—just log into Canvas and all should work!
For more info, see below.
Canvas & Discovery Education: Single Sign On
Over the weekend, Canvas and Discovery Education accounts will merge giving students and teachers the single sign on feature that allows them to access Discovery Education content within Canvas. Users will notice the Discovery Education tab at the bottom left of their course navigation where they can access their online DE Techbooks and digital content. Teachers will be able to access and include DE content within course modules, content pages, discussions, and assignments through external tool options. Should teachers wish to access their Discovery Education content directly through the website, their new usernames and passwords will be as follows:
Teacher Username: Email Address
Teacher Password: DOB
Included below is a link that previews this access. We look forward to supporting teachers and students with this new integration.

It’s Time for Kindergarten Enrollment in Rock Hill Schools
ROCK HILL – Rock Hill Schools is hosting an event on Saturday, March 11 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Rock Hill Schools district office to help families enroll their children in four-year-old and five-year-old kindergarten for the 2017-2018 school year. While the first day of school is six months away, the early enrollment event can help reduce the first day jitters for both students and parents.
The drop-in event will allow families a one-stop shop to complete registration, meet school representatives, and enjoy a carnival-like atmosphere where each registered five-year-old kindergartener will receive a class of 2030 t-shirt and free shaved ice compliments of Kona Ice. Students and their families can also take pictures with area mascots, practice boarding a school bus, and sit in a Rock Hill Fire Department fire truck.
To register for kindergarten, children must be five years old on or by September 1, 2017 and must be four years old on of by September 1, 2017 for pre-kindergarten. To enroll, a parent or legal guardian is expected to provide:
- legal birth certificate,
- a current S.C. Certificate of Immunization record, and
- proof of residence.
Accepted proof of residence documents are an electric bill, gas bill, and a rental or lease agreement. The parent or legal guardian’s name and billing address of the residence must be on the document.
Rock Hill Schools offers a limited pre-kindergarten, or 4K, program. There are several options available to families depending on the child’s attendance zone.
- A half-day program is available at Central Child Development Center. Sessions are available in the morning and afternoon. Families can register at Central Child Development Center or the district office. Students will be screened in late spring and families will be notified in July if their child has been accepted.
- Children living in an attendance zone of a Title 1 school are eligible to apply to a full-day 4K program. Schools included are Belleview, Ebenezer Avenue, Finley Road, Oakdale, Rosewood and York Road. Space is limited in the full-day 4K programs. Once the program is full, applications will be considered for placement in a half-day program at Central Children Development Center.
- Two schools – The Children’s School at Sylvia Circle and Old Pointe – offer a tuition-based full-day program. Families interested in the tuition-based programs should contact the schools directly to register.

Volunteer Opportunity for Next Year
Before school reading or math buddies/tutors
ii. Before school psychical activity coaches (perhaps offering a 20 minute fun physical activity that aligns with the volunteer’s hobbies (e.g., run club, yoga, Zumba/dance, etc) one or two mornings a week for kids who get there early enough; if we could find people who could teach the kids yoga that’d be really great for creating more mindfulness)
iii. After school tutors for parents whose kids need tutoring but can’t afford it
iv. Garden helpers – people to help in our Ebinport school gardens
v. Volunteers to oversee an Ebinport “peace center” where kids can go for calming down and conflict resolution (this would directly align with the course Ginger is teaching)

Construction Update
-Construction on the front office is ahead of schedule! Assuming that all inspections go well, we should move in well before the end of the year. Once I have a final date I will send this out to you all.
-Now for the bad news....we will not have the mobiles next year. It is not cost effective to renew the lease on the mobile units. Given that construction on the 3rd grade hallway will be completed this summer, we will be losing a classroom (Lunny and Vandermolen's rooms will become one large classroom and a resource room) and adding a class at 5th grade. So, as you can imagine, space will be VERY tight in our building next year. I offered up my new office as a classroom, but was told this is not an option :) Either way, those who are effected by changes due to construction will meet with me individually so we can discuss a plan prior to this information being released to staff. Rest assured, every effort is being made to work in the best interests of students, we will be uncomfortable for a year, but we are a united Ebinport and we will not lose our focus.
