Celebrate Getting Jiggy!
Think about your background and experience with the strategy, Jigsaw. There are a lot of variations of this strategy out there. And, lucky us! Instructional gurus, Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey, share their expertise on the topic in the article and embedded video from Educational Leadership. Take a moment to review both of these resources - you may find them to be a walk down memory lane or a useful tool for sharpening Jigsaw skills.
In the article, consider the following to reflect upon:
- What is unique about the way they share Jigsaw should be presented?
- Notice the purpose shared for using Jigsaw strategy. How might that be similar or different from the purpose you use it for.
- Which part of the Jigsaw lends itself to higher order thinking?
In the video, consider the following to reflect upon:
- Notice the goals the teacher used for the lesson -- how are those similar or different from goals you use for Jigsaw?
- What are some of the ways modeling can be added to the lesson to support middle-aged students?
- What are some of the ways scaffolding can be added?
Rock it out Pirates! Arrrgh!
