COMMUNICATION HIGHLIGHT
NOTES FROM THE OFFICE - REQUEST FOR AFTER-HOUR EVENTS
Requesting after hour events.
If the request is from a community user then per Board policy: “Applications received with less than one (1) week advance notice will not be considered” .
Staff members requesting building usage for after normal operating hours that are received within a day or 2 of the requested date of use will not be approved.
The reason is as follows:
a report is generated each morning for our security staff, our housekeeping staff, and our maintenance staff and that report is used to prepare for the evening events (what staff is needed, when/where, how long, set-up, clean-up, and air/heat) when a request is approved same day or even the previous day it just does not allow us time to operate efficiently.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE IMPROVEMENT PLAN (SAIP) MEETINGS
Karen, Jen Marshall, Chrissie, and Christine meet every two weeks to review absence and lateness concerns. Some students stay on our "radar" list, while others move forward with action items. One action item, the SAIP team meeting is worth addressing with all of you.
Parents of students who are chronically absent and/or late participate in Student Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) team meetings. At the meeting, the team reviews the current concerns, develops a plan, and sets a follow-up meeting. In the past, the meetings included the parent and one/two members of our committee. What I've found is that the staff who know the students best and who are affected most by chronic absenteeism are not present for the meetings.
So moving forward, teachers and case managers will be invited. The meetings will take place at 8:15 a.m. What does this mean for you?
- Teachers and case managers who are invited may share how the chronic absenteeism affects students academically, socially, behaviorally, etc.
- Teachers and case managers will have coverage from 8:15-8:45 to attend the meeting.
- Non-classroom teachers may be asked to cover arrival and Morning Meeting for a classroom teacher.
PUBLISHING CENTER
Thank you to our five classes who will start to use the Publishing Center as early as this month. The Publishing Center utilizes and reserves a small space in our Science Lab. Be sure to use our room reservation calendar for the Science Lab so there is not a conflict with space usage.
WELCOME NEW STAFF
Welcome to Becky McQuoid! Becky is our new BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) who works at EV every day 1. She works with Mark and students who are in the pre-referral process/regular education. Becky is also a parent to one of our 6th grade students.
Welcome to Silvana Civetta or Miss C to the students. Silvana joins us on Mondays and Tuesdays for the entire school day. She is from Creative Health and supports students individually and in groups. Silvana communicates with families too.
Welcome to Austin Gunson who facilitates Open Gym for students on Tuesdays at EV. He will be in the gym with students starting on December 10 for organized games.... think intramurals in the morning from 7:30-8:15 a.m.. Students in grades 5-6 will be eligible. Invited students will be the sole participants in December with more added after the new year.
CONGRATULATIONS
Long overdue, but congratulations to some of our colleagues who extended their time in their current positions: Donna Serfass remains with us in grade 2 until the end of semester 1, Becca Derstine remains with us in grade 3 until the end of the year, and Danielle Rapp remains with us as the Academic Coach until the end of the year.
