Important information on SC READY/SCPASS testing this school year
Lexington-Richland School District Five will administer in-person SC READY and SCPASS assessment tests to students in May and June.
On March 29, the South Carolina Department of Education announced that the state testing waiver for 20-21 had not been approved by the U.S. Department of Education. For more information on that announcement, please click here. As a result, School District Five will be administering SC READY to students in grades 3-8 and SCPASS to students in grades 4 and 6. The testing schedule is below.
Unlike MAP, SC READY cannot be administered virtually. The test can only be administered in-person in a secure testing environment.
Middle school students were previously scheduled for a late start on May 19. This has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
ATTA EAGLE AWARD
The Atta Eagle has enjoyed its time with the CMS Custodial Staff and is now soaring up to the main office to land with Mrs. Karen Krumrey. Mrs. Krumrey does so much for our Eagle family! As a custodial staff, we truly appreciate her always keeping us informed and being willing to help us at any time. She will always drop what she is doing to help us with what we need. We also appreciate all of Mrs. Krumrey's assistance when we are setting up for special events and school functions. She is very resourceful and knowledgeable about our school and our district. Thank you, Mrs. Krumrey, for all that you do to keep Chapin Middle running smoothly!
We appreciate you!

2021-2022 PTO AND SIC NOMINATIONS
It is time to begin the process of electing parents to serve on the Parent Teacher Organization(PTO) and School Improvement Council (SIC) for the 2021-2022 school year.
Parents who serve on the PTO support the educational goals of the school and encourage parental involvement in the education of their child's education and school. Our PTO meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7: 15 am in the front conference room at CMS. The first PTO meeting of the 2021-2022 school year will be on Tuesday, September 14.
Parents who serve on SIC serve in an advisory capacity with the school and also serve a very important role as liaison between school and community. Our SIC meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:15 am in the Media Center at CMS. The first meeting of the 2021-2022 school year will be on Wednesday, September 15.
Only parents of a child attending Chapin Middle School for the 2021-2022 school year are eligible to serve as elected members on PTO and SIC. Parents are limited to serving on SIC at one school each year. We currently have four seats available on PTO and two seats available on SIC.
Parent involvement is important to us, and your input is needed and truly appreciated. Please nominate yourself or someone else by completing the form on or before Thursday, May 13, 2021. Voting for our vacant PTO/SIC seats will take place electronically on Friday, June 4, 2021.
cms school improvement council 2020-2021 annual report
staying connected to your student
Parents often ask how to stay connected to a child’s progress and have some controls with assignments on the internet. At CMS we are committed to helping you accomplish this. We have several ways that you can actually keep an eye on your student’s academics and their digital footprint.
Currently we have three options. Parent Portal, Student Google Login, and Google Classroom Guardian Email Summaries. I have outlined the benefits of each in the table below.
CMS currently would like to suggest that you sign up for Parent Portal and learn how to log in to your child’s Google Account. The Google Classroom Guardian is also a great tool but may be redundant if you log into your child’s account regularly. CMS requests that you log into your child’s account regularly. If students are aware that parents can look at email correspondence, classwork and other activities regularly, it helps them make the better choice in a difficult situation.
As you are aware, District 5 uses a student’s birth date as a password. We choose at CMS not to reset these passwords so that parents can easily access student accounts regularly. The benefit of not having lost instructional time for “forgotten” passwords is invaluable, and when students know that parents and teachers can access their accounts, it helps them stay on task and make good choices.
If you have any questions regarding how to sign up for and of this information, please contact our Digital Integration Specialist, Lori Powers at lpowers@lexrich5.org or 803-722-5573.

Note: For security reasons, you need a Google Account to receive summaries from Classroom. You don’t need a Gmail address—you can create a Google Account with your current email address.
