Principal P's Friday Message
March 3, 2023
A Message from Principal P
Dear CMS Families,
We have had a busy week here at CMS as we welcomed students and staff back from what we hope was a restful Winter Recess.
Our 7th grade scientists have been working hard on the NYS Science Investigations lab, "It's Alive". They are applying their scientific skills by making observations using a microscope to provide evidence that living things are made up of cells.
The 7th and 8th grade chorale shared their talent at last night's Arts and Choral Festival at the high school. It was a great show and was a joy to see our 7th and 8th graders join the high school students for the finale.
Have a wonderful weekend and be safe if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
Better Together,
Ms. P

West Genesee Shamrock Spirit Sale
The Shamrock Sale is live and you can place orders through this link. This year's sale is going towards the high school UMOJA and Social Justice Coalition clubs with emphasis on the UMOJA Reading Buddies Program. This year our goal is to get 500+ books into the hands of our littlest wildcat readers. So far we have worked with classes at Split Rock, East Hill and later this spring at Stonehedge.
AM Drop Off Reminder
Homeroom starts at 7:35 AM students arriving after 7:35 should enter the building using the main entrance, which is entrance #1.
A Message From Our Counseling Office for 8th-Grade Families
School Counselors are meeting with 8th-grade students over the next few weeks to plan their schedules for high school. Students will receive a pass in homeroom with their scheduled meeting time. If you have any questions once your child has met with their counselor please reach out to the counseling office. 315-672-8381.
For additional counseling/student service resources please visit our CMS webpage.
Yearbooks
The online store is now open. Order your 2022-2023 yearbook here.
The cost for a yearbook is now $30 Yearbooks can be ordered until March, 24
If you have questions please reach out to our yearbook advisors Mrs. Tanchak or Ms. Levea at:
CHROMEBOOKS
Please remind students to charge their Chromebooks every night and over the weekend. We are seeing an uptick in students either forgetting their Chromebooks at home or bringing them in uncharged. Once the library runs out of extra Chromebooks to loan out for the day, students will be unprepared for classes and may not be able to access the materials needed to complete their classwork during class.
How to obtain student work due to absence
If a student is out 2 days or more, please email teachers prior to 10:30 and work will be emailed. If anything needs to be picked up, teachers will let you know and the work can be picked up in the front foyer between the doors anytime between 3:00 PM- 5:30 PM.

This month we celebrate Black History Month
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history. (history.com)
To learn more about the origins and importance of black history month check out the resources below.
The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity to achieve full citizenship in American society.
