Celebrating College Park's Success in National Assessments and Encouraging Parental Engagement
Dear College Park Parents,
I am thrilled to announce that College Park has once again been recognized as one of the top schools showcasing significant growth in the national assessment known as the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress). FCS uses this assessment for all 2nd and 4th graders. This celebration is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, and staff.
At College Park, we take pride in our commitment to consistent academic progress and outcomes. This recognition reaffirms our collective efforts in providing a nurturing and challenging learning environment for our students.
However, our success is not achieved in isolation. Parental engagement and support play a crucial role in ensuring the continued growth and success of our students. Therefore, I urge all parents to actively participate in our High 5s program and encourage your children to attend school regularly to take the weekly formative assessments.
These assessments are invaluable tools that help our teachers identify areas where students may need additional support. By participating in these assessments and engaging with the reteach efforts, we can work together to ensure that every College Park Tiger achieves mastery of essential skills.
Your involvement is vital in maintaining our upward trajectory and ensuring high outcomes for all our children. Together, we can continue to foster a culture of excellence and success at College Park.
Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to our school community.
Warm regards,
Dr. Maisha N. Otway
Principal, College Park Elementary School

🦁🦚 Friday Frenzy 🐺🐍
Our First Friday Fenzy, each house engaged in a thrilling game of fortune or torture. The anticipation filled the air as they spun the wheel, eagerly awaiting the outcome. The wheel determined their fate – either a stroke of luck that earned them valuable points, bringing fortune to their house, or the challenging reality of no additional points, a form of torture in the competitive atmosphere. The event added an exciting twist to the usual routine, injecting a sense of unpredictability and excitement into the Friday activities.
Celebrating Black History Month: Shoebox Luncheons
This week in honor of Black History Month, at our shoebox luncheons this week's speaker captivated students with an African folktale. The tale centered around a wise young man who, through attentive listening and overcoming obstacles, ascended to become a prince. The students were actively engaged, absorbing the valuable lessons embedded in the narrative. Additionally, the speaker shed light on Carter G, the founder of Black History Month, providing a meaningful context for the celebration. Thank you to our guest speaker Ms. Brenda.
