Weekly Updates February 16, 2020
Happy Sunday Pirate Families!
We hope that you are enjoying the long weekend and have plans for a relaxing day on Monday since it is a teacher workday. Our Pirates have been busy this past week making their mark across the district and state. Our JV ladies basketball team won the conference championship while our varsity ladies team brought home another victory Thursday night over Havelock. Our men's basketball team beat White Oak on Tuesday night. Basketball playoffs kick off this week with our ladies taking on Northside at Jacksonville High at 6:00 pm on Tuesday. Our men's team will take on Havelock at Havelock High on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
Our wrestlers did a tremendous job at the regional competition at Cleveland High yesterday. Isaac Gawronski and Gio Rodriguez both had 3 wins and 2 losses, and Klint Rhude had 1 win and 2 losses. River Carroll placed 1st in the 160 and will go on to states next week. Our winter track team participated in the state championships on Friday night in Winston Salem. Congratulations to Zach Biggs who finished 7th in the state in the 300.
Congratulations also to Tripp Kidd who was selected to play in the Clash of the Carolina's All-Star men's soccer game. Our ladies soccer team will participate in the Heritage High School Jamboree this weekend.
Special recognition today also goes to Victor Jurkiewicz for receiving his Eagle Scout rank last week. This marks the 3rd student at Swansboro High School this year to achieve this prestigious rank. Alphonso Hill received his rank a few weeks ago and has been invited to the White House to be recognized by President Trump this Friday.
In music, Bradley Taylor and Joshua Thompson both auditioned for the Eastern Regional Jazz Band Clinic at UNCW on Friday. Both won a spot and will be participating in the 2020 Eastern Region Jazz Band. Both students are now eligible to audition for the N.C. All State Jazz Band! This brings Swansboro Bands to a total of 10 students eligible to audition for the NC All State Ensembles; a 100% growth from previous years.
