Fulton Flier
Week of 19th
As we begin to prepare for fall 2021, we will be working with our staff to engage in the articulation process later this spring. Parent input is an integral part of our articulation process. While plans for fall 2021 have not been finalized, we will begin seeking parent input next week so that we can include this information with our academic, observational, and social-emotional data as we plan for student placement for the upcoming school year. An electronic input form will be sent out next week with directions on how to provide input on your child’s placement for the 21-22 school year. As plans for 2021-22 evolve and are finalized, we will continue to inform you.
Additionally, I wanted share with you the upcoming emergence of the Periodical Cicada! This particular type of cicada is a fascinating insect that only emerges out of the ground once every 17 years. Your child(ren) will be learning about cicadas along with their Quarter 4 science unit. We encourage you to talk with your child(dren) about what they have learned and what they continue to wonder about.
Whenever natural occurrences such as this take place, there is understandably some uneasiness, worry, or even fear associated. If you did not live in Maryland in 2004, you may not have experienced this phenomenon before either! We want to assure you that this Brood X Cicada is completely harmless, and is a fascinating insect to investigate. We are encouraging students to touch them, observe their body parts up close, listen to them, and even observe their behaviors. Click here to learn more and to preview some of the lesson materials teachers will be using with students to learn about the Cicadas!
Warmly,
Dr. Burks

Please remember to conduct a daily symptom check every morning prior to sending them to FES.
Parent/guardians will assess their children for symptoms of COVID-19 illness and refrain from sending/transporting them to school until after they have been symptom-free at least 10 days after the onset of symptoms, have no fever for at least 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication, and have continued improvement of symptoms and/or medical consult with their primary care physician.
If your child has any health conditions that need to be updated, please contact Ms. Christina Toler christina_toler@hcpss.org or Mrs. Kathleen Wurstner kathleen_wurstner@hcpss.org.
