COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Hi! I’m the counselor at Greenland and Meadow View schools! Your children who are in 5 year old kindergarten through 4th grade get to see me in their classrooms for a half hour every other week. Maybe you’ve already heard about some of the things we have been talking about…if not, I want to fill you in!
We started off this year by reading a book called All Are Welcome. We talked about differences people have and that despite our many differences, we are all welcome at our school and in our classrooms. We talked about welcoming words and actions and even how we can give welcoming looks toward others. Some classes got to make bookmarks with welcoming reminders on them!
The next lesson had to do with safety and some of our important school policies. We discussed the district policies on weapons, harassment, bullying, and the use of the buddy bench on the playground.
Our next several lessons will be centered on the brain. Basic brain parts and processes are explored. In the younger grades we talk about how we can change our thinking and be more mindful in our learning. The older students will hopefully get a better understanding of how our brains work and how they can improve in different areas. Growth mindset and thinking about our thinking (metacognition) are the basis of the exploring we do in this unit.
Please let me know if you have any questions but the classroom guidance.
Sincerely, Sarah Howells, School Counselor
OCTOBER FITNESS CALENDAR: FITNESS IS SPOOKTACULAR
Starting October 1st, students can participate in a fitness challenge. Every day, there is a different set of exercises for students to complete. If they do the exercises for the day, they can cross out the box, or put their initials to show that it was completed. At the end of the month, students get a family member’s signature and bring the calendar back to Ms.Brockmann for a STAR ticket. Students complete as many days as they can. If they don’t do it all, that is ok! The fitness calendar is attached to print out and start exercising! If you are unable to print out the calendar, but want a copy, see Ms.Brockmann. Any other family members are welcome to participate and encourage the student to complete the challenge! Any questions, please contact Ms.Brockmann.
FALL BOOK FAIR
Our Fall Book Fair will run from Thursday October 10th - Thursday October 17th.
