Enhancing Education: Dessa and social-emotional learning
As we kick off the school year, The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns reaffirm our commitment to providing your child with a comprehensive education, focusing on both academics and social-emotional development. We are excited to introduce the DESSA (Devereux Student Strengths Assessment) across grades kindergarten through 10, in conjunction with our academic screener, Aimsweb. DESSA, a research-backed tool, evaluates and enhances social-emotional competencies through questions assessing life skills your child has demonstrated in the past month.
This valuable insight, kept confidential and used exclusively for educational purposes, will help us better understand your child's strengths and areas where they may benefit from additional support. By incorporating DESSA, we proactively nurture your child's academic, emotional, and social development. Read more in this letter from Dr. Audrey Brutus, Supervisor of Social Emotional Learning and Community Engagement.
