A Message from Mrs. Hardwicke
March 18, 2024
Hello Students and Families,
Winter is about to be officially declared over. The sign is not the calendar or the ever--
lengthening days, but the arrival of the turtles from the swamps and Turtle Week! It is a five-day celebration held by Liberty Intermediate School staff and students, ending with our Turtle Olympics on Friday. We have many fun things planned throughout the week, starting with spirit days. Staff members will also be looking for students that are being Turtley Awesome throughout the week to receive a special prize. On Friday, classes will paired up and work together to win games at our Turtle Olympics. Who will the winners be? I can't wait to find out.
Have a wonderful week,
Mrs. Hardwicke
We would like to give 6th grade student, Jason Perrine, a shout-out for laser engraving the pencils that our Turtley Awesome students will be rewarded this week. You did a fantastic job!
Solar Eclipse Permission Slips Due Soon!
All students should have received a permission slip allowing your child to participate in a viewing event for the Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024. The best viewing time for the eclipse in our area will be close to 2:08 p.m. Classes will be able to briefly go outside and view the eclipse with the use of American Astronomical Society approved eclipse viewing glasses that the school corporation has purchased for our students and staff members. Only students who return their permission slip will be able to participate in the viewing event outside. Staff members will be monitoring the students during this time and students will be instructed to keep their eyewear on the entire time. If you do not wish for your child to participate, they will remain inside with designated staff members. Please sign and return your permission slip by Friday, March 22 so we can plan for staffing inside and outside accordingly. Have your child stop by the office if they need a new permission slip.

Liberty Elementary School Reunification Drill 3/19/24
On the morning of Tuesday, March 19, 2024, Duneland School Corporation (DSC) will conduct a reunification drill at Liberty Elementary School and Chesterton High School. Over 140 students and parents have volunteered to take part in this drill.
Circumstances may occur at a school that require parents to pick up their students in a formalized, controlled release. This process is called a reunification and may be necessary due to fire, weather, a power outage, gas leak or any other emergency that may occur at a school. DSC believes practicing a reunification will make the process more efficient and effective for all involved if one is ever needed.
Law enforcement officials will be participating in and/or observing the drill tomorrow. Please do not be concerned with their presence on our campus.
