Wednesdays AIR prep
It would be best if our students enter their testing day as confident as possible, especially in how to take the test, and needing only to think about the content. In order to do so, please use the next 6 weeks to review the following tutorials with ALL students. If you have students in SPED, Intervention, or ESOL groups on Wednesdays, the teacher who has them will review the information with the students.
From Feb. 6- March 27 make sure you review the following areas. Consider reviewing some of these items more than once with students who would benefit from repeated review.

Transition
Rising 7th Graders
This year the JH is changing the course recommendation form for 6th grade teachers to complete. They will no longer use paper copies. HERE is a sample sheet they will use for you to make recommendations. It will be accompanied with criteria for course recommendations and all of the MAP data will be in the sheet. This sample only shows ELA, each content (SS, math, SCI, band, orchestra, and ESL) area will have a tab.
Jr. High Choir tryouts for 6th graders will be held on Tuesday, January 29, Wednesday, January 30, and Thursday, January 31. The Blue and Gray team students will audition on Tuesday, January 29 in the morning, and Purple and White team students will audition on Wednesday morning, January 30. Please refer to the schedule that was shared with you on the Google drive for the exact times. Thursday, January 31 will be available for any 6th grader who was not able to audition on the first two days.
6th grade tours to the Junior High - Change of date: The orientation/tour/lunch at the Junior High for 6th graders will now be on Friday, February 22, 2019. ALL 6th graders will go at the same time and details will be forthcoming. This will take the place of the original tours that were scheduled for April 24 and 25.
The JH counselors will be meeting with every 6th grade student in early March. They plan on coming down for two days. Each day they will work with two teams. Students will be pulled out of social studies class for a short period of time as the three counselors work one on one with students. I will send you a more detailed schedule when the dates are finalized.
Rising 6th Graders
We are making an adjustment to the process used to place students on teams. Here is a message that will go out to parents in the coming weeks. Please let me know if you have any questions.
At the Greene School, we place a high value on relationships and believe that placement with at least one friend assists our students with the transition to the intermediate school. Students are placed by academic, social, and emotional needs. We collaborate with fourth grade teachers and parents to gather information. In addition, we ask parents to list six friends on a student information form that you will receive in February. While we will not be taking parent requests for specific teachers or teams, we will be taking requests for placement with a friend. This friend will be in your child’s homeroom and with him/her at lunch and recess, providing a familiar face throughout the day allowing for continued relationship building at Greene. We do offer a variety of Project Based Learning experiences at the Greene School. Your child will be placed in a team that uses a PBL approach one of the 2 years at Greene.
